Pretty much any Telefunken E88CC or E188CC Will sound superb. They can be found with a bit of work.
Thanks @watchdog507
I see gold pin and black Diamond versions. What’s the difference? Sorry, don’t know much about tubes
NOS or new?
Paul
Try these from Chris at Parts Connexion.
Thanks Jack,
The price is right as well!
That’s what I ended up with in the 250 and had used them in other gear before. There are a couple of others here using them as well. Chris is also a PSA dealer.
Or Siemens or Mullard depending on your musical tastes. I like the Mullard’s in the Pre and when I had a 250, I liked the Siemens in it.
Pretty much all Telefunken made by Telefunken have the diamond base. Gold pins are just a slight grade above. That said metal pins sound wonderful too. The gold is tarnish resistant.
I also like Valvo tubes.
I am using those exact tubes on my BHK 300’s. They are superb. Had the Genalex, then Tungsrams and now the Matsushita’s. Best ones of the 3.
How would you compare the three you mentioned?
will be great to read a comparison of this 3 tubes
I am running NOS Amperex Bugle Boy 6922 e88cc in my 250 and they sound so lifelike. Huge Soundstage, dead quiet backgrounds, sweet and open across the band!
Good to know. I just ordered.
The only issue I have with getting these tubes from Parts Connexion is they do not offer triode matching and pair matching.
If I were to characterize the 3 amongst each other only. The Genalex were balanced and neutral sounding, Tungsram detailed and the Matsushita dynamic in the bass and warm in the mids. YMMV and 10 quarts of salt
Interesting, you can specify matched sets and super matched sets when you purchase them every time I’ve bought from them.
That is good to know. There is nothing on their site to indicate that, that I have seen. Maybe I muissed it.
I have used the same Amperex 60’s vintage in the BHK 300’s. Liked them much better than Mullard 70’s vintage. Have not tried them in the BHK600’s yet. Gold Lions sound fine here but not as much in the BHK 300’s. Try Andy Bowman at Vintage Tube Service for a good selection of 60’s vintage used at reasonable (less than Brent Jesse) prices.
