Another one has passed. IMO a true creative giant. RIP David.
Two days after his birthday, having just released his last album. A chameleon.
Not really a chameleon because they change to hide. David always was in the spotlight, changing! Rest Mr. Jones.
An excellent point.
He’s going to be missed. In the 'seventies I followed him heavily. All my listening changed from the 'eighties on (moved away from pop and rock and into jazz, Brazilian, classical) but I’ve since caught up with Bowie releases and my respect for his work is deep. He was an innovator, and a bit of a trickster shaman. Going to be spinning some Bowie this week.
Kind of disheartening when the big names of your youth start passing away from natural causes. While I wasn’t a big Bowie fan, I heard and liked a lot of his music on the radio. The one thing that sticks in my head was circa 1973/4 when one of the local Detroit rock radio stations, WWWW, would play “Panic in Detroit” every day after the noon (I think) news. Certainly made an impression on me, I can still picture/hear it now. Also, the recent documentary, “David Bowie: Five Years” is very interesting. Takes a look into his life back in the 70’s, certainly was a world I hadn’t experienced …
NPR has recently aired some interesting articles as well, including an interview with his first landlady/lover. He was quite a character.
uk: i remember that he was an innovator, and a bit of a trickster shaman. Going to be spinning some Bowie this week.
