Changed the outlet in my wiring closet…

In my second place/system I have this messy wiring closet for the modem, Ubiquiti gateway, switches etc. I needed to do some surgery on the wall for unrelated reasons, so while I was at it I swapped the builder grade outlet in the wiring box with a Hubbell 5262 I had lying around.

I think this made as big a difference, if not a bigger one, as upgrading a downstream cheapo switch to an LHY SW-6. Bass in particular is noticeably improved in fullness, depth and punch. Even more so if I plug the DLink 2.5GbE switch directly into the Hubbell instead of the Legrand power strip. It’s a crappy 15A circuit with a million things connected to it and no room for any conditioning, so I never paid much attention to it, but clearly I should have… I swear the sound even picked up a bit of that “warm brass” sound that the Hubbells are known for when used with actual audio gear. Add to the list of baffling/maddening variables for streaming quality… :person_shrugging:
