Complimenting accessories for m1200’s?

I recently purchased a set of m1200’s. I’ve been using the search function a fair bit reading everyone’s thoughts but there’s so much to absorb. It would be helpful if folks that have m1200’s could reply in this thread with what they have found to work well with them. I currently have upgraded feet and isoacoustics mini pucks under mine. They have audioquest monsoon power cables and audioquest dragon zero speaker cables running mids and highs while a custom set of canare cables handle the bass. I’ve got some gold lion tubes in them. They sound great. Just curious what everyone else has done. It’s dawned on me there may be other cables that the amps may respond even better to. Sorry for the lengthy post, but I am genuinely curious. I don’t mind experimenting. It’s way less expensive when you know what others have enjoyed.

I really like Atmos Ray tubes in my M1200s

Donald can tell you more about this, as he’s tried a lot of things. In my experience, power cables do make a difference, but the difference is usually least noticeable at the amplifiers, so the benefit is greater elsewhere in the system.

I had to try numerous power cables with my M1200 monos. In the end I’ve settled on a pair of Furutech Powerfluxs. They plug into a Shunyata power conditioner and each amp’s outlet in the Shunyata is shared with a High Fidelity Cables MC 0.5 power conditioning plug. In my experience, the M1200s are more responsive to power cord changes than any of the other three amps I have (Modwright, Decware, Luxman.) I use either black plate Raytheons or CBS/Hytron tubes. I’ve tried IsoAcoustic Orea Bronze, Boston Acoustic Tuneblocks, & Stillpoints SS footers and settled on the IsoAcoustics. I also use a Telos Audio Design Mini Quantum Resonator on the outlet feeding the Shunyata. They aren’t a well known company in the USA and their product info reads more like metaphysics than physics but their products work as advertised nonetheless. I also have to mention that recent addition of a Modwright LS99 preamp has been phenomenal at revealing even more previously unrevealed potential of the M1200 amps. I’m not one for hyperbole but it really is next level compared to the PS Audio BHK, Luxman C700u, Modwright LS36.5, and DeHavilland UltraVerve III preamps I have (although the BHK is now departed.) Any tendency of the M1200s towards over illumination of high frequencies that has been mentioned in reviews is banished and replaced with extraordinary clarity and resolution with no glare or harshness whatsoever.

I agree that the tweaks and power cables made less difference on M1200 in my system too, but they do make a difference.

Frankly, I have not tried many tweaks for the past two years on amps, but my current favorite is this setup:

Steel footers under M1200 on top of an old MDF shelf, and the shelf sit on top of four aluminum footers (do not remember the names but they were from Nordost, I think). I do believe using different material of footers and platform is the best way to isolate vibrations. I preferred these Aleexpress steel footers over Orea Indago when I compared them a number of years ago. But my system is so different now and I want to try Oreas again. So far I found 5 of Indagos, and I need to find the last one that was hiding before I can compare them again (I know I have 6 ).

I like Aptos Ray Select 12au7 too, the next best tube is NOS Telefunken “Mazda”. The difference is that I like Mazda’s vocal better, but everything else Ray seems to excel a bit better.

In terms of power cables, I only tried two (because they require two, and many I owned are single). I like Zavfino OCC SilverDart Graphene better than AQ Thunder, quite a bit better in fact. Again, the PC improvement on amps is less than 50% of my other components. Zavfino is such a bargain that I have no plan to replace them yet. At the same time, I have tried many PCs on other components so I have a bunch of single PC that I cannot use on M1200  One of these days.

Hope this helps.

I actually read up on the mod wright ls99, watch some reviews, then found one on TMR and just ordered it. I’m gonna give that a try. I appreciate the advice!

:+1:

I hope you find it as pleasing as I do! So far, I’ve tried 60’s Siemens 6dj8, '86 Voskhod 6n23p, & Telefunken 7dj8 tubes. Easy to hear the difference and preference would depend on the rest of the system. The “air” and soundstage of the Telefunkens is amazing. Haven’t gotten around to trying any of my 6922s or 7308s yet. Also replaced the stock GZ34 rectifier with a Mullard. Oreas work well here as well.

Just ordered Amperex bugle boy 6DJ8 60s NOS Holland. Hoping they light up my Modwright modified DAC.

If anyone needs 6H30s let me know.

Heard Telefunken was amazing. I saw some of these at 1600 a pair. Holy cow.

I forgot to mention. if you want to try these steel columns for amp or any component, I suggest you insert a sorbthane 70 Duro sheet (or two) between the bottom of component and the top of the metal column. This little trick from @Vmax made a day-and-night difference in this application. Without the sheet the SQ could get a bit “bright” in some systems, I assume.

I can’t speak for the M1200, but an easy and free tweak on the M700 (which I use) is to plug them directly into the wall. I’ve not used a regenerator, but my M700 don’t respond well to power conditioners. Over their time with me, I’ve tried Furman, AQ Niagra, and the high power version of the PS Audio Ultimate Power Outlet. Nothing sounds as good as directly into the wall. I currently (hahahaha… current!) use a Voodoo Powermatic plugged into a PS Audio Power Port on a dedicated line.

I will try that one

I decided against the modwright ls99 preamp and stuck with my McIntosh c2700. I ordered NOS tung sol tubes for it, including a 50’s NOS military output tube. It ended up being that huge soundstage that envelopes you that I was looking for. The stock preamp tubes in the McIntosh are reliable, but leave a lot to desired in sonics. Anyway, I’m incredibly happy with the 1200’s. They are exceeding my expectations. Thanks for all the advice everyone
