Darren Myers for President!

I acquired a Stellar phono preamp recently - it replaced a tiny, but overachieving Clearaudio Nano in my chain. The double-boxed package that it came in was surprisingly hefty - I’d assumed a phono stage would be much lighter. Apart from a minor hurdle (the box contained the wrong remote control unit; I thought I’d have to wait a few weeks for the correct one to arrive, quite frankly, but Marbin Colah, PS Audio’s India distributor, the champ that he is, came to the rescue with a spare unit he had) the setup was smooth as can be. I turned everything on and put an ear next to my MoFi Sourcepoint 10 speaker. Nothing. I checked every cable and plug. Everything was as it should be. I put on Waltz For Debby, and that nothing turned into everything. The music was mountain brook clear, instruments all in their place, and timbre glorious. I have a BHK Signature amp and preamp with a Chord MScaler and Chord Hugo TT2 as my other system, but something about the Stellar rendered that setup a little sterile. I’ve played and replayed my records endlessly and grown to adore this preamp more and more. Darren Myers has achieved something remarkable here. PS Audio, please woo him back from Parasound. He’s a treasure.

Welcome!

Great first post.

Bravo! I, too, was astonished when I received my Stellar Phono and listened for the first time. It’s been 5ish years now and I have not been tempted once to “upgrade” the Stellar Phono. I am trying to ignore the pending PMG Phono launch and refuse to acknowledge that Darren Myers designed that Phono pre as well. :hear_no_evil_monkey:

Hard to imagine a phono stage performing better than the Stellar but, as always, that’s the way it goes until you hear something better. It will be extremely interesting to finally hear actual use experiences with this new PMG piece.

It sounded flat with the BHK system?

What is the “other” system?

It sounded sterile, not at all flat. The other system is a Line Magnetic 805IA feeding a pair of Falcon LS3/5As (I swap the two sets of speakers frequently).

I wish BHK had done a phono stage to match the rest of my system, before prices went sky high. In Canada the PMG Signature is $13,000. I had to settle for a Stellar to complete my all PS Audio system. The distributor says the factory will have it built in a couple weeks (no stock).
