Hah, he just put the 'beef and balance in the same sentence.

No amount of dialing is going to change the difference between the Jr. and the Vitus, and the Spatials do a surprising job of showing what is feeding them. It seems they don’t require a low watt tube amp to sing. However, I expect the Decware to develop a lot over a coupla hundred hours if for no other reason than it now uses Mundorf Supreme caps, which take a while and change a lot.

It’s funny how audiophiles - who already made the experience, that basically configuring meaningfully and in detail dialing in a system, partly takes decades - start the whole thing completely new from time to time on a trial and error basis…if only in parallel to another setup, which already made it’s way through this. But if it wasn’t fun, they’d not do it. I guess this just is the part of audiophilā€˜ism that others outside hardly understand

@jazznut It has to do with discovery, ā€œcreativityā€, control, personal tastes, ritual, belief systems, and oh so much more. And we love it.

Not familiar with the Vitus. Those Mundorfs will take some time to settle in. My new speakers have the Mundorf EVO, not sure of the difference between EVO and Supreme, but I anticipate a rather lengthy break in as well. Happy to hear you are enjoying the Spatial speakers.

I tend to dial it in after final break in and then leave well enough alone preferring to spend that time listening to music. Just my preference.

Yes, I know us  We do this, even if just to get aware at the end of a tweaked out trial (based on a very different concept than we previously chose), that this initially obvious limitation and character of the concept let’s us drop the finalized trial again after a few years

All true - however this is more in the way of an experiment and due to being fascinated by the various means of making sound - all of which have compromises to one degree or another. I didn’t get the Decware or the Spatials to replace anything or because I was unhappy. On the contrary, I don’t think I’ve changed anything in either system for nearly a half a year. Which may be some sort of personal record.:cowboy_hat_face:

Yes, when I heard those two setups at the last high end shows, I was thinking of trying a different approach, too…but 1. I just heard what they wanted to play…and 2. those kind of trials wouldn’t be cheap

As someone who has been using Decware components since '97, exploring the product line, and having two systems built and adjusted for years with excellent sound, it is exciting to see new explorers and experimenters here with the Decware amps. It’s also a great time to enter into Decware exploration as all the amps and preamps can sound better than ever before at this time.

So, you’re up on speaker company names of those that make most-efficient speakers,
since you’ve been a veteran in the flea watt sect? If I ever got a pair of monoblocks, I
think I’d use them to power up my HiFiMan and Abyss planar headphones directly from
the speaker terminals. For speakers, I’d prob have to look into Klipschhorns and the like…

I have never liked the sound of Kipsch that I have heard, something jarring about them, edgy, that I don’t prefer. But I have never owned a pair, just listened to them in others’ systems and twice in a showroom.

I actually haven’t explored really high efficiency speakers. I’ve used Decware speakers the last 20 years of about 91 to 92.5 DB efficiency and they work wonderfully for me.

I have never tried headphones from a Decware amp directly–I love the sound of headphones using the Deceware CSP3 preamp (mine now has the 25th Anniversary mods and glass resistor mod) and the Taboo Mk IV heapdhone/speaker amp (with 25th Anniversary mods–a great amp for both speakers and headphones, especially power hungry planars.)

Any further updates badbeef?
I’m on the list for a Jr, but put my order in April so long way off.
I’m running Trio 15’s using a 8W Bottlehead Kaiju and there is more than enough headroom with 8w,
I don’t get above 70 on my BHK Pre when listening to Vinyl.

PAP Trio15 Classics incoming. PAP is awaiting Mundorf caps, resistors, and Voxatic AC-PiFe full range drive. Pulled the trigger when I scored a ZEN SE84UFO with anniversary mod. I think it was on the market for under an hour. What are your thought and tips regarding the Trio15’s? My understanding is break-in while take some time. Then I can dial them in. Hint, if you keep an eye on Decware’s Classified section, you may snatch an amp as items are hitting it more than I would have expected. A Torii IV hit recently it recently. I joked with mr. beef , taht ossibly he had a change of heart, but it was not a jr.
Enjoy that Kaiju/Trio15…

@weedeewop

I have the Horn version. I upgraded the cap to Mundorf EVO supreme. Resister2 (ceramic) to path, and changed the ferrite core to a monster mundorf foil. Also replaced the cabling with Cardas 101.
I switched ot the rubber washers for the baffles for sorbothane that I cut from a sheet 1/8" thick. With the rubber washers I would get rattling with low frequencies, now no rattling.
Setup is very sweet sounding. Soundstage goes way beyond the speakers, On Breathe from Dark side of the moon, some notes are way out to the side to be almost behind you.
I ordered the Decware because I was curious how it compares with the Kaiju.

Thank-you for the tips. Sorthobane makes sense… I also understand isolating the x-over is beneficial. I am kicking around the idea of Verrastar foils for a wiring loom. Maybe something similar. once they break in I’ll have a better idea of priorities. Did yours change significantly through the break in, and about how long until things came into focus?

It’s been about 18mths. You need to play them loud to break in the 15"s. Find a track with hard bass line and crank it up on repeat. After a time, the sound will begin to open up. Opening of soundstage was most significant improvement.
