DirectStream DAC & Sound Isolation

PS Audio:

Does the DirectStream DAC audibly benefit from sound isolation such a butcher blocks or IsoAcoustics Audio Equipment Isolators?

Thanks.

I know a number of folks that have put some of the IsoAcoustic pucks under their DSD and swear by them! Certainly worth a shot.

And the mini pucks are on sale now for 25% off, and at 22 lbs the DSD just squeeks under the 24 lb weight limit of four mini pucks. Easy and inexpensive tweak to try.

If the DSD 22 lbs is generally equally distributed I guess. If 15 of the lbs are concentrated in one corner (I wouldn’t know - just an extreme example) then you’d be overloading one of the pucks, but you get the idea

I currently use both. Started with Herbies isocups/hardballs then put this on butcher blocks (IKEA) and then replaced the Herbies with isoacoustics Oreas. Each was an improvement.

I use some dense foam pads that came from a packing box. They seem to be almost made for insolation. work just fine. I also have some expensive isolators I use on my preamp. I tried them under the DS vs homemade foam solution and did not hear any significant difference.

I use VooDoo Cable Iso-Pods under my DSD and these sit on a PS Audio PowerBase. This is the arrangement with most of my components, though I do use MapleShade Audio 3" Triplepoint Megafeet under my Decware ZTPRE preamplifier.

Right the Oreas are more tailor made but also cost $200 vs the current $37.50 for four mini pucks (though you gotta buy eight for $75).

I also use Orea for my dac.

The Oreas made a significant difference for my DS Jr. I only use 3 of them. Highly recommend.

Edit: Specifically, mainly better imaging but also slightly tighter bass. (Soundstage did not see noticeable difference for me.)

BDR cones & jumbo pucks on top of a Corian sandbox on a well damped rigid steel rack. Very worthwhile under pretty much any AV component.
