Nordicbob, my understanding is PS Audio sends a link to a “secret” purchase page. I sent an e-mail to Paul but have not gotten the link to the “secret” page. Others have and have ordered so it is active, but I’m stil waiting …
Yes, we individually got an email with a link to the secret purchase page. I didn’t proceed to order, however I’m looking forward to read the reviews of the beta team over the coming weeks.
tony22 said Now, does anyone have a spare PS Audio I2S cable lying around that I can borrow during the beta test period?I also need to pick up a HDMI cable to connect the DMP to my DS DAC. IIUC the PSA cable is no longer manufactured. Any suggestions for a good one?
Paul McGowan saidpmotz said Three of you have gotten your order in? Interesting ... I sent Paul an e-mail yesterday, he responded this morning that it would be forwarded to Kevin, but nothing more. I don't have a PWT, but Paul did say other equipment would be taken in trade. I'm anxious/nervous that it will work out for me.I apologize. I forwarded each and every email request to Kevin who then began processing and emailing folks back until we had enough - it was first come first served as we only had a few units to beta test. We got so many requests we had to cut them off when we got too many. I am so sorry.
Well that sucks … I have been waiting a long time for this. Guess it wasn’t meant to be. I passed on the P10 offer to afford this. Maybe it’s time to invest in the turntable …
“Maybe it’s time to invest in the turntable …”
Nothing wrong with that option…

There will be units to purchase before too long when production units are put up for purchase!
Paul McGowan saidnordicbob said I tried to order the memory player with trade in of my Ayre SACD player this morning, but your website would not let me order, it said "out of stock." Does that mean that the beta players are all taken? If so I'm really sorry to have missed the and I believe that I would have been a great attribute as a beta tester. Will you have more units in for beta Testing?
Yes, unfortunately, the beta units flew out of here and are now all spoken for. We only had a few. Sorry for any of you that missed out. We’ll try and have something special for preorders starting on November 1.
I’m sorry that I missed it.

Kevin sent me an email last night at approximately 5PM congratulating me for being approved for purchasing a beta unit which I didn’t see until 8PM last night when I arrived home. That was only 3 hours after the email was sent. I immediately opened the link to place my order but was rejected for being too late. Either there were very few unit made available or those that did get a unit where sitting on their computers watching all day. The BHK300 beta program administered by Scott Schroeder was based on when you signed up with a backup list for those that signed up after the allotted units where either purchased or not by those on the chronological list. That worked a little better for those of us that can’t watch our email all day.
By the way, email and phone calls to the sales team (Kevin or Duncan) are being answered via automated messages that they are out of the office for the Rocky Mountain Audio Fest and won’t return until 10/9. I was lucky to get an order in last night before the ranks closed, but there are details that need to be corrected. I sent emails soon thereafter addressing these. Then today I spoke with 2 different personnel manning the phones at headquarters and left more messages for Kevin. Am thinking now, though, that getting through to him will just have to wait until after the weekend. And nobody knew details yet regarding shipping dates, etc.
It would be unfair to declare first-come/first-served and then reserve spots who were not first. (“You’ll be directed to a private purchase page, where it’s first come, first serve. Once we’ve sold out, it’s over.”)
Other procedures are much more difficult to organize and process - and there will still be complaints.
PS Audio has already offered a generous trade-in policy for those of us who are not Beta.
The frustration for me is that the (now named) DMP has been of interest to me for over two years. I started a forum topic on “What would you like in the next PWT” in June 2014, my main interest was getting an SACD player that would output the raw data to the DS. I’ve been patiently waiting for it ever since only to have the “Carrot” jerked away at the last minute. I know I’m being somewhat selfish and whiny, but it’s just annoying. I think that the very limited number of beta units should have been disclosed and that it would be announced in the forum first, not Paul’s Posts as had been stated. I answered the forum post within a couple of hours of it being posted but I was too late. The (sadly) funny thing is the next days Paul’s Post announced the beta program, but at that point it was too late, all the spots were taken the day before. I should also add that I did not get the “Dear John” e-mail saying I wasn’t selected. I’m not expecting anything more, just wanted to get that off my chest so I can move on to something else…
For me, I sent my email to Paul yesterday morning at about 8:50 AM (East Coast Time). He answered back about one-half hour later letting me know I was approved. The email from Kevin was at 5:47 pm. Coincidently, I happen to read this email just several minutes later. I completed the purchase transaction several minutes after that, by about 6pm.
I agree this was different than beta testing the BHK 300 Mono Blocks and the BHK Signature Pre Amp. Neither of those were first come first served. Although, both of those times I was not one of the first to get either unit. Several other Beta Testers had posts describing their experiences with their units weeks before I received mine to test. Perhaps this is meant to be a shorter window for testing since this transport is an updating of a current product rather than a completely new piece of equipment. Either way, I feel very fortunate to be on the Beta list.
I do have a current PWT and am looking forward to comparing the two units head to head.

For you and others who didn't get to participate in the beta, I hope they can come up with a good deal so folks can pick up a DMP on favorable terms. Seems like the kind of thing that PSA would do.
Magister, I saw that note and will probably hold off on doing anything drastic, but the fact that the price of the DMP rose from the hoped for $4k to $6k was a shock. The last minute announcement of the trade-in was a very nice gesture, but I’m getting nauseous from this emotional roller coaster! I sure hope we get to here some beta tester reports before November.
pmotz said I know I'm being somewhat selfish and whiny, but it's just annoying. I think that the very limited number of beta units should have been disclosed . . .I believe the following covered it: "We have a limited amount of betas and they will go quickly" and "Do not delay. In the past, we’ve had many more applicants than beta units."
It is always a bit disappointing not winning the lottery. Unfortunately, there are a good number of people who are similarly disappointed. Others of us concluded we did not have the time/availability to apply. There simply is no way to make everyone happy.
But PS Audio will treat all of us nicely when preorder begins. Order the new unit then and take advantage of the generous trade-in offer!
Alan W said I do have a current PWT and am looking forward to comparing the two units head to head. This is precisely what I would like to do and to learn about. I love my PWT, but if it can be bettered I would be delighted. But I am having a bit of trouble wrapping my head around the concept that the DMP improves on the PWT.
I am also curious to learn how well the DMP plays SACDs and how this compares to DSD over DOP.

Playing my SACD collection is the main reason that I am interested in the new PS DMP and whether it is all that much better than my beloved Ayre C-5xeMP player. I suspect that it is, but will not know that until I audition one.
Elk,
You seem to think that you are the arbiter of all things PS Audio. Your sanctimonious responses to others postings don’t really cut it.
As to this particular topic you are way off base. PS Audio, not you, posted that they wanted us to apply to be beta testers of the new DMP. After applying we were either accepted or rejected for the program. By applying and being accepted we were making a commitment to purchase an, as yet, unproven product at our expense. Apparently you didn’t apply because you aren’t convinced that the DMP is better than the PWT. Those that did apply are convinced that the DMP is a substantial improvement over the PWT without even hearing it.
Some of us received an email that we were accepted in the beta program and given the purchase link. We weren’t informed ahead of time that we were entered into a lottery or game based on hitting the purchase link that limited our ability to participate on a first come, first served basis and that more participants were told they were approved than unit were available. This is quite a bit different than Scott Schroeder set up for the BHK300 or BHK preamp beta program.
I’m beyond the point in my life that I play games with my money. I applied based on my faith in PS Audio to produce a product worth taking a multi thousand dollar chance on without auditioning it first.
I have faith in PS Audio producing cutting edge products and have put my dollars toward benefiting their success, but I don’t appreciate a company playing games with those that support that success.
Elk, I can’t argue with your points other than the “limited amount of beta units” was disclosed at the last minute. Had I known I needed to watch the forums like a hawk I would have. One other thing, Paul sent his post out announcing the beta at 4:16 PM yesterday, but Alan W said he sent his e-mail to Paul at 8:50 in the morning, more than seven hours before the announcement. Hmmmm, is that fair? Yeah, I know life isn’t fair, but am I the guilty one when I point it out?
DenisD said You seem to think that you are the arbiter of all things PS Audio.Far from it, a point I have made specifically many times; I in no way speak for PS Audio. I express my opinions only. You are absolutely free to disagree. And apparently do. :)
We weren't informed ahead of time that we were entered into a lottery or game based on hitting the purchase link that limited our ability to participate on a first come, first served basis . . .Sure we were. Explicitly. We were told PS Audio would review the applications and email recipients of their decision. And then (drum roll) . . .
"You’ll be directed to a private purchase page, where it’s first come, first serve. Once we’ve sold out, it’s over.”
Again, I recognize a number of people are disappointed, but this is the nature of "first come, first serve. Once we’ve sold out, it’s over.” That is, if you fail to act promptly, you lose out. Sadly.
You appear to perceive yourself a victim. I do not, merely not part of the flying flanges fortunate few. Sometimes the girl you ask to the prom declines, explaining she already has a date. It happens.
I applied based on my faith in PS Audio to produce a product worth taking a multi thousand dollar chance on without auditioning it first. You were not taking much of a chance; you apparently also missed the phrase: "We offer our full refund policy if you’re not happy." :)
You will have yet another great opportunity to purchase the DMP should you choose to do so. PS Audio is typically generous when introducing new products and we already know of the wonderful trade-in program they are offering. I encourage you, and all other unhappy beta applicants, to buy the product then.
