I was reading some old posts today by Ted talking about lifting the XLR shell in the audio output sub-menu. I tried this months ago soon after getting my MKll and I never could hear a difference. I gave it a go again today and, to my surprise, I definitely could hear more nuances in the highs. Very nice. I was looking for a distraction from following election results today. Think I found one.

Digital volume controls are said to lose resolution in their lower ranges and are generally looked upon with disfavor. Yet, it looks that is what they used with the MKll. Can anyone give me an insight as to the design and how PS Audio addressed this issue?
The DSD Mk II volume control does not discard bits and diminish sound quality.
How do they do that?
This is correct. It is handled without loss. That happens by upsampling and extending the bit length to 50 bits.

Just received my MKll, ice cold from its trip across the country. Let it sit at room temp for a while then installed it into my system. I hear an immediate difference between the MKl.
I want to thank all on this forum for educating me on hi quality streaming. I was using my Mac and Spotify thru a Blue Node. My system is 25 YO English made Musical Fidelity dual mono choke regulated pre and amp. They run my Maggie 12ās and sound wonderful. You guys educated me about the Eversound streamers and the DS. So I got a A6 and a used MKl. I have been enjoying music of all kinds. So when Paul offered the Dec deal on the MKll with my trade in I took the plunge. All your comments on the MKl and MKll encouraged me along the way.
Looking forward to better sound as the break in occurs. Just now on Nora Jones I hear fingers on the guitar frets that I didnāt before and my dog just barked at something that came thru the speakers.

So I streamed Radio Paradise all night thru the MKll. This am I fired up the amp and pre and streamed Dave Brubeckās Take Five thru Apple. Itās one of my test recordings for speakers. This wasnāt even the remastered disk. Wow just wow. Everything is just bigger and fuller. The kick drum is something I focus on for separation and dimension in that recording and it echos across the recording studio. The cymbals just stand out. Bigger, fuller and deeper music. And this is comparing it to the MKl.

The better that element of the composition/performance sounds in terms of a sense of realism, the better my system sounds overall.
Well, a week in with the MKII. This DAC is starting to share some of the most resolving and natural sounds Iāve heard from a DAC. It just does everything REALLY well, and I am so glad I upgraded. The synergy between the AirLens and MKII transcends audio. I was excited to find the same soul in my MKI still present here, and I was hoping that would be the case. 10/10 would recommend. We spent the weekend comparing the MKI, APS modded MKI, and the newer MKIIā¦ The group of 7 guys and a very resolving system joined up for a day of real-time A/B comparing the three (all 3 DB matched with pink noise). We even had Media Bridge II and Air Lens streamers on handā¦ It was a fantastic day. In my personal listening, and with the new firmware update, I am easily leaning toward the MKII as superior for my personal preference. Especially as this thing breaks in. WHOA.

Have about 60 hrs on the new MKll. An additional thing Iāve noticed is that I can hear the difference all over the first floor on the house. My set up is in a large room with a 2 story ceiling. The Maggies have always sounded good in this room. But now I can hear the depth and dimension all over the first floor. Amazing.

I sold my MK2 with APS transformers after we compared it to my Directstream APS Limited Edition Signature Series Plus. Had my Signature Series upgraded. Large improvement. I originally used the Bridge 2 and found it to destroy the sound quality. I pulled it and the sound quality restored. I Canāt recommend the Bridge cards. These DACās are one of the best sounding DACās available.
