@audio2addict Nope, there’s only a couple in the world anyway and we’re not going to the show.

Too bad, I had hoped to get to hear it before deciding.
How long will the trade-in / DIY upgrade program be available? Thru the end of 2014?
In light of how good the PerfectWave DAC sounds, it’s hard to believe that the DirectStream will blow the proverbial doors off of it, but I’m probably going to gamble that it’s as good as is being said. If one buys the kit, will there be a warranty for the re-built machine? I’d be buying the kit from my dealer in Ontario, Canada, so the warranty question relates to Canada. Thanks.
Please point me in the right direction, as I’m sure this has been covered - perhaps it’s in the videos that I haven’t had time to watch; I’m interested in knowing the level of difficulty (or perhaps, the level of required experience/skill needed) in upgrading a PWD MKII via the DIY kit. Will the process require soldering, or delicate wiring process…?
I believe we will soon see a Canadian forum member don the anti-static gear and take to YouTube for our schooling.
@timequest
Ben, don’t worry. It will probably be easier than we all expect.
All 3 boards are screwed to the same mounts as what is being removed. Tighten “politely” as in not overkill as well as double checking that the toslink is “firm” to avoid vibrations.
I am pretty sure that PSA will make a video and all will be clear.
I hope they start with the unopened box to show the beautiful packaging as well.

Thanks guys!
Maybe a less than astute question but will the DirectStream have the same volume and balance controls?
@lazbisme
We are keeping the same 100 - 0 volume. I don’t know exactly what the taper was previously: now it’s 100 0.5dB steps. Balance is also there and it’s also in 0.5dB steps. It’s all in the UI software, not the FPGA or hardware.
Will the DirectStream include a network bridge (if buying a new model vs the upgrade kit)? If not, will the bridge from an existing PWD work in it? If it does include a network bridge, is it any different in design from the existing one for PWD? Thanks!
The DirectStream won’t include a bridge. The old bridge works with the DirectStream just like it did the PWD. All bridge related connections are identical.
@audio2addict I am not sure how long the upgrades will be available, but we’ll probably keep them through 2014 or until demand dies down.
Paul, I think I will be going the upgrade route myself… just built a house, so am a tad short on cash right now but will try to get my order in ASAP… just in case, do give us plenty of warning before discontinuing that option!!!
PS, Paul, if I place the order now, do you charge the card now or when it ships?
When I placed my order for the upgrade kit Mayoura said they would charge the card immediately.

I encountered this when I ordered my NPC early in September and it didn't ship until mid October. Paul, what's the deal with this? Most businesses don't charge until an order actually ships. Paying now for an upgrade kit that won't be available until May doesn't seem quite right.
I do understand why they want to take at least some $$ percentage up front in a case like this, or you’ll have a ton of people making reservations and thus bumping others off the list, and then cancelling. But otoh, I, and probably some others, would be happy to plunk down a deposit now and make a firm commitment, especially if it means being in the first group or groups to ship, but aren’t thrilled about having to pay 100% up front for a product that is a few months off even if all goes well… so, yeah, I’d vote for reconsidering this one…
You also have to consider liquidity.
It is not beneficial for a company to buy a lot of expensive parts and not getting paid for it immediatly.
If the parts are expensive a company may also be forced to utilize their overdraft to cash it out.
These considerations are general ones and not tied to PS Audio.
I agree a deposit would be fine, but paying the full freight? After all, this is not a customized product (like the bookcase I ordered from my local wood shop, which would not fit in somebody else’s house–and they only asked for 1/3 up front). If someone did change his mind, just give it to the next person on the list.

Sounds reasonable if logistics allow for it.
