If someone has had a successful 256 download that plays - would be helpful to hear
Might I suggest a possible solution for myself and others? If this glitch seems to be on the octave side - give us the 64 so we can download that so we can listen to the music - and for our inconvenience - and when the 256 is fixed push that to us. Waymanchen unfortunately will still have issues because he all ready has the 64.
What do you say @Paul ?
Thx Tim
I am just seeing this. Sorry guys. Can one of you do me a favor since I am not around the studio files until Monday. Can you take one of the files and change the extension from DFF to DSF? Let me know if that solves it.
This was done.

Ok, since I am not in a position to try it myself, I wonder if you all can help suss this out.
First, let’s try a simple change from DFF to DSF. If you click on this link: Dropbox - 01 - Scabaret - You Think You Can.dsf - Simplify your life you can download a 256DSD from the Scabaret album (awesome album). Let me know if this plays as expected.
Next, please describe for me your chain. You’ve got the DSD file downloaded, now how does it get from the computer into your DAC (and what DAC do you have).
Thanks for the help!
What was done by waymanchen?
FYI. I have other .dff files that play fine (to verify jriver) and as noted flipping the extension was one of the first things waymanchen tried. Then I downloaded GasPops and uh-oh. He downloaded the audiophile masters 1 ….since this is out in the wild … it seems fairly important. ![]()
To add: if someone looked at a DS or software - it appears to work. But no sound. So someone has to hook the dac to a system w speakers to validate.
He tried altering to dsf. Just like you had said. We tried that last night
Ok thanks. There’s definitely something whacky here.
I can’t get that file to play that you gave us from the Dropbox. Maybe someone else will have luck. It won’t play if I have it external to jriver … and it will not import into jriver either.
I am laptop/jriver/matrix/I2S//DS. Have played 256 files using this chain. Have played .dff files as well. Pretty vanilla setup really
I downloaded the song, and my Stylus app could not find it in my SSD. So, I am fairly
sure it is unplayable.
I don’t know why that makes me feel better. Lol.
It is fairly certain that the issue is not on our side, I think.
Just downloaded it and plays, but no sound. Something is definitely wrong with the files.
I look forward to this one and would buy it again to compare.
As there will be several changes, DSD256 instead of DSD64, a different mastering step (I assume probably DXD ißnstead of analog), different mastering choices, different monitoring speakers etc., I guess it will be impossible to identify the exact contribution of each to a different sound.
Just my impression of all sorts of different file from 21192 to DSD64-512 and DXD, I like DXD most. Also importance that depends on how the original track was recorded and mastered. If its 1644 then no matter what file it upscale to I don’t think I can get more info/details from whatever the file transferred to right?
Sorry if this was already posted… long thread.

I’m not sure how I missed back in July but… anywhoo… first @Paul a question…
If you re-release your excellent Octave catalog in DSD256 will those that already own a copy have a chance to get these files? Or at least a discount?
My playback chain for DSD is:
Roon → HQPlayer → Streamer -(USB/DoP)-> RME ADI-2 DAC FS (AKM).
With this setup I can up-sample / convert everything to DSD256 including Qobuz and Tidal.
Yes, thanks, Jazznut. I am still working on the process and getting some interesting results. I’ll let everyone know what I find. What’s fascinating to me is trying things that are outside the box (as they say). “This is the way it’s done” is an instant red flag for me to test out that assumption. The results are sometimes a revelation.
Hi @Paul . I assume there will be some sort of notification on this thread on the fix for the 256 download. Thx Tim.
