If it’s an especially rare anomaly, mention proton decay and they’ll go far away.

About 15 years ago, a project manager asked me testily how a million pound computer cluster could have a random bit error causing it to crash (and stop ice cream production across Europe so important stuff ).
I told him that as CPUs get more complex they become more and more vulnerable to cosmic ray bit-flip events.
He sneered and said something like “oh we’ll blame it on the crystals then”.
I took some pleasure in forwarding him every scholarly and technical article that came my way regarding cosmic ray interference with CPUs. For the next ten years until he left
