Factory Certified BHK Signature Preamplifier

Would a Factory Certified BHK Signature Preamplifier to Replace my Audio Research LS25MKII sound better ?

It might come down to personal preference. If you could arrange to hear both in your system then the choice should be fairly clear.

Based on my listening to the SP11 (a good while ago) I would choose the BHK, but I haven’t heard the LS25. The PMG pre is IMO a big step up from the BHK and I suspect from the LS25 as well. If the PMG is within budget then the 30 day trial allows a direct comparison in your system. If the BHK you are considering has a return policy then you can compare without any risk.

In my experience the BHK beats the Audio Research. Many years ago I had the LS25 Mk II and after reading Paul’s Post on going direct from DS Mk I to the amp sounding better I removed the LS25. Was happy until the BHK Pre came on the market and Paul said it sounded better in the chain. Had to give it a try, to my dismay he was right. I don’t recall if I ever did a direct comparison between the LS25 and the BHK Pre, but I felt very confident the LS25 was the lesser component. I would go for the refurbished unit!

Thank you for the reply’s, I am vacillating between an Audio Research Ls5 mk2, or get to something not so old. The PMG would be awesome but I don’t have that kind of money right now. My plan is to sell the LS25MKII and ad some money for a step up in sound quality. The Refurb BHK might be worth a go especially for the price point. Then trade up to the PMG when I have the funds. My old LS25MKII has served me well over the years and still sounds great but Im ready to step it up, for a better sound stage, and a newer component

Thanks again…….

Excuse me, I meant looking at an Audio Research Reference 5se, how do you think that would compare to the BHK or the PMG.

Thanks

I owned the BHK preamp for four years and sold it. I would buy the 5SE.

For what it’s worth I would confidently put the PMG up against the Audio Research in a heartbeat. The BHK would probably hold its own, but perhaps the AR would best it.
