Finally....PerfectWave SACD Transport

The thing is, as a lifelong…no, wait - since the mid 1980’s - CD buyer…NOT HAVING to get up and load them into some sort of transport is…fab.

Wondering therefore if DS mkIi will have three I2S inputs: one for the PST, A second for the Octave, and a third for Bridge III? Will I then be seduced into spending another $1400 for the two additional hi end I2S interconnects? Current wireworld starlight I2S interconnect (DMP-DS) cost about $700 if I recall.
Or, is the concept that two of the alternative source inputs for DS MKII will not be I2S, and perhaps lead to audible compromise by accepting only suboptimal interconnect technology?
Gotta say, hanging around here makes me feel like such a nerd. But I’m listening to SACD Daphnis and it sure sounds wicked good.

Do you think the quality of what you’re hearing from your server is as good as you would get with a physical CD on a PST?

It will be great fun to learn what people conclude when comparing the PST and the new Octave server.

I won’t/can’t speak for @badbeef (or to the virtues of the new PST) but, for what its worth, on balance my digital downloads and ripped CD’s generally sound better streamed from my iMac via Wi-Fi to a router and then to the PSA Bridge II using the JRiver Media Center (JRMC) software as the renderer and JRemote as the controller/remote, as compared to discs spinning on my DMP. JRMC also, on balance, outperforms Roon rendering my same files as well as Qobuz and Tidal streaming via Roon.

There are exceptions, on a recording by recording basis, from time to time. But, so far, I keep finding myself going back to JRMC and the Bridge II route for extended listening.

Can’t explain it, but this has remained my preference for some time.

Maybe the Octave software will knock JRMC off of its pedestal?!

Time will tell.

Cheers.

We’re all different. I abhor files and streams and like discs and the loading and unloading of them etc.

The files you abhor - are on the discs as well.

I still like playing vinyl, so…

And - I never sleep :metal: which is not fun actually. I exaggerate. Just don’t sleep all that well :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

I can’t remember the last time I slept 8 hours.

Caps!

Streaming or CDS or vinyl…It’s not an either/or…It’s an and/or IMO.

That’s disingenuous, the delivery is totally different. I have no interest in them outside of disc playback, you do. Vive la difference.

Hold your ground.
I was right there with you until I tried streaming.
Now my preference is all of the above.
It is joyful.

Nothing disingenuous about it. That is an odd word to use - so I am not sure what you mean.

A good rig of either is equally rewarding, and should sound fairly similar for the most part, IMO. I wrote that I play vinyl to say that I am not opposed to getting up and doing the work of changing discs. Some are so sold on the convenience of streaming that they lose the taste for getting out of their chair and may choose to overlook SQ as a result. But there is certainly no reason that a streamer should sound inferior to discs.

I still have a DMP, and it has been gathering dust as I have not felt the need for it since getting a good streamer going a couple of years ago. I try it once in a while to confirm, but I do not feel the need to use it any more.

I know that the new spinner is better, but it is no longer worth it to me to play digital discs.

Then why are you so verbose in this thread?

I’m not talking sound quality. “Ultimate sound quality” is a quest I am no longer a Galahad for. My “word” was for “but they are the same files.” I’m not proud of the word and take it back. It’s the very method of delivery you prefer that I have zero interest in after trying.

I’m glad you prefer what you prefer, and I prefer what I prefer, and the twain will not meet, which is fine for me. Let it be.

I’m not sure what happened here, but apparently apologies are in order - so I’m sorry if I’ve caused offense. I will stop posting here.

This is why discussing products that are months/years away isn’t always a great idea.

My understanding as of now is that if you have the Octave server, it makes the need for the “Bridge III” obsolete. You are right though, with all of our digital sources now supporting I2S out, it probably isn’t a bad idea to have 3 I2S inputs on the DS MKII.

Sorry beef. I learned a lesson the hard way a while ago. That being, if the topic of the room is a TV show I don’t like absolutely no one is interested in reading me say “I don’t like that show” or worse “I have no use for that nonsense”. Instead of saying anything at all I just ignore the thread.

Please forgive my harsh comment. Please.
