Finally....PerfectWave SACD Transport

James
What does 2.3.1. add to the mix?

A number of things. Let’s wait for the release notes because I’m sure I’ll miss things if I try to list them all here.

I heard that it’ll work like siriā€”ā€œhey PST, play track 3ā€. Is that true?

waiting for an mri. need distractions!

Nothing serious, I hope…

Best of luck,

My brother’s DMP also sounds better than his Aurender N10, but with single layer SACD’s. With regular SACD discs it’s pretty close. He’s not using the best cables and power supplies with the Aurender though. Anyway, he enjoys both units and has different music on each.

Just got my PST a few days ago and try to play some SACD disc today. I did go to the SACD layer menu and DSD was displayed. However, the display window still shown as CD and my DS senior only recognize the input as PCM.

I was using the I2S-12 and tried the newer PSA HDMI as well with the same result. There is no problem with the DMP at all.

Is there any set up trick to play the SACD layer? Thanks.

This should not be a problem. Can you give us a ring on Monday? We’ll get you sorted out.

Just for a quick test, try the other I2S input on the DSD. Some mentioned this would work with the DMP, and when they went back to the other input, that started working as well. I’m curious if this changes anything.

Over 750 of burn-in via the USB thumb drive and the PST continues to improve and impress…
My guess is it will take a full 1000 hrs like every other piece of audio gear, including speakers I’ve broken-in in the past. Soundstage size, image layering and specificity are noticeably better than the DMP.
For some reason the bass seamed to take the longest to settle in and sound it’s best. Through most of the break-in period the bass was giving me fits trying to dial it in with speaker placement. As I listen now the bass sounds spot on, nimble and articulate, and with better attack and authority than the DMP. As musical and satisfying listening to music via the DMP was, the PST is even more so. Instruments and vocals take on a more natural and life like sound, bringing even more enjoyment and satisfaction to every CD I plop in the tray. Previous CDs that I found difficult to listen to due to poor recording quality, are now much more tolerable and enjoyable to listen to.

Also the unearthing of new found detail has made listening to old favorites so much more gratifying and involving.

Still don’t understand how a digital transport that outputs zeros and ones improves with break-in, but it most certainly does.

Problem solved by rebooting the DAC and the PST. Thanks.

The PST is really something and I won’t say more until I sell my DMP.

Ha!

In my case, If PST is main power on (from the back) and DSDAC is off, PST will check if DSDAC is alive or not, if not, it will switch to CD layer.

I am downloading 2.3.1 by way of Wi-Fi.
However it has been stuck at ā€œ34% completeā€ for the past 40 minutes.
Should I just let it continue or start over?

If it’s still stuck, I’d start it over. It should only take a few minutes at most.

I just did it. It went smoothly thru.

I like putting on an album, because I’ll be more patient with the music. With streaming, which I still like, I’ll get a bit impatient and decide the music doesn’t fit my mood after a few minutes. In the end, I prolly spend more time selecting via streaming than with physical media.
