I was able to download the zip file using Google chrome on my iMac without a problem. Double clicked on it and it unzipped instantly. Copied to a thumb drive and loaded into the MKII, also without a problem-listening to it now. Sounds greatā¦I do think there is a subtle improvement in spatial representation. Thanks, Ted!
@tedsmith Ted, to simplify future firmware and FPGA updrades until wifi and ethernet upgrades are possible, I left a usb extension dougle out from the FW port in the back. Will this in theory affect the sound in anyway? i.e. noised picked up by the USB cable somehow getting into the system? Since MKII is so sensitvie.
Thanks!
My typical response is that that USB input is not connected to the hardware in a place thatās particularly close to things that will affect the sound quality. Itās hooked up to the control processor and not the FPGA, for example. I wouldnāt worry about it unless proven otherwise.
Hi Ted, did the latest FW update includes the auto shutoff on un-used HDMI or USB inputs? If not, will it be included in the next release?
The FPGA isnāt involved with powering up (or not) the I2S inputs or USB. The next UI update due in April will have those features.
I believe Paul said 4/10
That probably mean the real release date is around 8/10 or next year
I know I am repeating myself, but I am guessing PSA wants to have a number of things fixed and/or released before AXPONA.
Personally, I want it to be release tomorrow, some the rough edges of UI is a bit too annoying considering how many smart devices with very user friendly UIs are available the market these days.
Canāt fault how the unit sounds, or Iād be more critical. I get PSaudio is more of a device component comany. Software, without proper talent, can be a challenge.
Indeed, based on experience, if not benchmarking, it would be asking a lot of PS Audio to have an OEM app that works multiple PS Audio devices. But web interfaces sure should be on their workplan. I was upstairs yesterday and wanted to turn off devices in the downstairs theatre. I was able to turn down, mute and turn off all devices except the PS Audio devices via my phone.
Patience waiting for firmware updates will pay off. Remember the 1st DS MK1 and how much the sound improved along with a better user interface in just the first year. I think we will be in for a treat when they release them. It gives me something to look forward to. Iām glad PS Audio released the MK2 when they did. Iām enjoying ours.
Just a note for those who havenāt yet done any FW upgrading on the MkII. The instructions state as follows (starting with Step 2 as Step 1 is not relevant to the observation):
This suggests the MkII will automatically read to contents of the USB stick. For me at least, with the Sandisk stick Iām using (formatted to FAT32), this does not happen. I have to toggle power with the back switch, after which when it comes back on it will read the stickās contents with no issue.
My MK2 sees the files every time I insert the USB. I can pull the USB, Insert it into my PC, copy files, EJECT, insert it into the MK2 and the new files shows instantly. This is just for Firmware files. For UI updates the update need to be on the USB stick, inserted into the DS then power cycle. The standby button will flash for about a minute and reboot.
Yes, I power off and back on. A very few times I got interrupted and when I got back it had read the USB stick without a power off and back on. But I donāt want to wait most of the time.
I think it depends on the size and brand of the USB stick. I never had to reboot mine. It showed up as soon as I inserted the USB stick. I have a small 8 GB USB stick.
I just wanted to point out that this isnāt something that can be taken as guaranteed, and that a small power cycle should fix it.
Yes, it is a common problem. And folks who have not experienced this can count themselves lucky. Cannot wait for OTA myself for the official updates. But happy to help test interim updates. My lucky stick of late is a 10-year old 3GB in basic FAT.
Have you tried a smaller USB stick? I have two 8 GB USB sticks and both of them are read instantly. Maybe the size of the USB stick is the issue??? Ether way it sounds like you have a good work around.
