Foundry F12 impressions

Any Canada love?

Thanks for telling your setup story and impressions.

while we set up the sub response for what we felt was the right low frequency extension vs output, you can change this, especially with multiple subs for increased headroom. Theres up to 10 db of eq and so you can set up a shelving filter in the app to boost below 20 hz in our phone app with a few simple clicks.

Also, as you mentioned, there are custom low pass crossover available in the same manual eq section of the app (6 db/octave and 12 db/octave filter blocks that you can cascade for whatever you want).

Also, I would check the left knob on rear or your fr30. Near/far adjusts the level of 400 hz and up. Set it to “far” as default. Measure both settings if you still have your mic handy to see what I mean

I know our distributor in Canada brought in a few units though I’m not sure if those are going to a particular retailer. I know we’ll be showing one of them at the upcoming Montreal audio show. As far as I know, the others are up for grabs!

Thank you, Chris. As a new first-time owner of the M700 Monos, I can’t believe how great they are—and my next item on my wish list is the sub. Chris, if I may ask: for a room of 11.5’ x 10’ and 8’ H, would the FR5 or FR10 with the sub be a better match? I am using Focal Theva No.2 floorstands and am not sure if the bookshelf or floorstand would work best in my room with the Aspens. I will be at the Montreal show and hope to see the sub and Aspens in a live setting.

Both work well in a smaller room. I’d probably start with the FR5 and then upgrade around it.

Thank you.

This looks like a great woofer. The driver seems identical to the one in my SVS SB-4000. It is one of the most serious woofer I’ve seen and can move a tremendous amount of aid. I suspect that Chris’s attention to cabinet, amp, and crossover application will yield one of the best woofers available at a reasonable price. My sub is invisible in my system with proper placement and crossover application matching to a pair of Celestion SL700se.

Welcome!

Hello Folks: I have all PS Audio gear including PMG pre and DAC. I missed the boat on the transport but have SACD.I have 2 P20’s and BHK 600’s and FR-30’s
Yesterday, I installed one Foundry 12 to augment my FR-30’s. Evidently, FedEx has a 150# limit rule per shipment. My second sub is arriving today. I quickly opted for the iPhone AP as it is very convenient. A search of the Apple Store for “PS Audio” was successful. The Ap is intuitive and easy to use. The pairing with the wireless transmitter went well as per instructions. I did a quick set up and followed intuition rather than a full tweak. I will fine tune later. I placed this single SW outside and in corner of front wall (speaker side). I set CO at 70 and Level at 50% and in phase. I listened through my Airlens/Qobuz and Paul’s, Jay’s Audio Lab playlists. I could not hear any sound coming from the SW. Instead, it seemed to integrate well with the FR-30’s. I noticed a fuller sound that improved imaging and all frequencies. I could play at lower levels and achieve a really good SQ. I anxiously await my second sub. I will give you guys updates when I install the second one and tweak away. My first impression: It is worth it.

Glad you’re enjoying them so far! Please let me know if there are any setup questions or how we can help dial things in when you get your other unit.

There is no 150 pound limit per fedex delivery (on 150 pounds per item, not per delivery). Sometimes, items that ship on the same day arrive on different days. We’re sorry for the trouble but this happens sometimes with all of the major shipping companies.

Thanks Chris. My second unit arrived today, and I placed it in the opposite corner of the front wall. I had to dial in the CO and levels for each. I settled with a CO of 50 Hz and a level of 37%, down from 70Hz and 50% respectively for each. I stopped at this point as SQ is excellent and the new subs probably need to be burned in. The thing that surprised is how the subs affect the highs and mids in a very positive way. Soundstage is massive, wall to wall. And imaging is more precise. This is a significant improvement for me. Thanks Chris for great SW.

Glad you are enjoying the 2 subs. I was curious to know if you are using line source cables from your preamp or attaching them directly to your power amp outputs.

I need to set my volume level to 90 to get a close volume match on my sound pressure meter at all with my FR-30’s using 40 and 60hz test tones with balanced XLR line source connections.

If I set the volume to 37, there would be basically no sound benefit from them on my system.

Happy Cake Day, Elk! A true diplomat (endangered species) and gentleman.

kimeccles:

I am using the wireless transmitter and the low level feed from the BMG pre output. This is an RCA unbalanced LR connection. The transmitter converts this signal to mono and transmits it wirelessly to the subs. Regarding the level setting, I was referring to the sub level setting not my pre volume setting. I am sorry that I was not clear.

Thanks. I was referring to the red LED lights on the back of the subs, or the same sub level setting in the app. I have mine set at 90 to get a good balance.

I am guessing the wireless setup, or the BMG pre must have higher gain than my preamp out to XLR interconnect cables for you to be able to get acceptable sub bass output at a 37 setting.

I just ordered a PMG Signature preamp to compare with my Krell Illusion.

I think you’ll be pleased with the PMG pre. The subs probably need to stretch their legs with a burn in period to get the most out of them. A few sessions of 1812 might help.
