Going gapless -- Streamer for use with PWD?

OK, let me summarize the available solutions:

1. PWD, but you will have to choose between gapless or NAS, when (when?) WaveStream is ready

2. Go for another product (Linn, Marantz, Weiss, Lumin, etc)

With 2 you definitely have more choices. With 1: more headache, (already) less capabilities, but very good price/sound quality ratio.

May be PSA should consider publishing its source files to a broad audience. Maybe somebody will find some time to implement the dreams of the people here.

@mike48 Mike, I am in a similar boat as you, only I still don’t own a Bridge. My current understanding is that WaveStream will be able to be controlled from a remote like an iPad or from a computer in the listening room, and since, like you, I don’t own iTablet, that means yours-truly-with-Wavestream back to having to have a computer at my listening position.

Which leads back to a question to Paul. Is the Silent Server still in the plans? And if so, is the means to control it going to be an iTablet of some sort?

Why do I have to pay for yet another 3d party product

Easy, use Foobar2000 - it is free. It may even run under wine. Of course a bit of wine running in you might not hurt too.

Of course I use foobar, but it cannot be run on a NAS and cannot be remotely controlled if used with WaveStream, so it’s not relevant.

WaveStream cannot be remotely controlled, what you control is the actual application that plays files.
WaveStream is an ethernet interface, so it will send any PC audio to the Bridge. Yes, it should work with any software on the computer that produces sound, so you can pick your favorite flavor of player and remote,

Thanks for answering my questions.

I have JRiver up and running on my computer and am using JRemote to control it. I have it directly connected via USB to the PWDII (2.14b, 2.10). It sounds like several of you are connected via the network and not USB. I would like to connect via the network too so I can take advantage of the Bridge and the Digital Lens. Can you point me to where I can find out how to configure it it, or does that only work with WaveStream and you are all beta testers?

Hi Speeddeacon and others looking for info on jRiver setup,

1. Go to the jRiver Tutorial for the PC Thread the directions for setup are there. You might want to read the thread it has lots of how to dos.

Otherwise go to Media Network

Options

Check Use Media Network to Share this library and enable DLNA.

That is the place to start.

Let me know if you have more questions.

Right; I was using shorthand. What I should have said was, controlling JRiver Media Center remotely.

As far as I know, if you are not using UPnP (and WaveStream is not a UPnP item), the choices for control are (1) putting another computer running JRMC in the listening room, (2) using an iPad running JRemote, or (3) using another device (e.g., Android phone) running Gizmo. Are there others worth considering?

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction. I had only been reading Mac threads and it hadn't donned on me to look at the PC thread for common issues.

I did enable the DLNA in J River but was not finding any LAN option for output, only USB, internal soundcard, etc. Perhaps it was because I was on USB input on the PWD and the bridge wasn't discoverable. I'll read the thread and see what I can figure out for when I get home.

WaveStream is THE way to connect JRMC to the PWD/Bridge across the network and get gapless playback. Hopefully it will not be too long before it is available to a wider audience than the beta test group, but for whatever reason progress is slow. Until such time as WaveStream is made available you can use JRMC as a UPnP server to the Bridge but you will not get gapless playback.

I suppose that PS Audio needs to release a Network Music Player and speakers so that you can have a PS Audio system from end to end with NO third party products. You do use PS Audio power cords and interconnects, don't you? It's a tough life when you have to buy one more item from ANOTHER MANUFACTURER (Horrors!) to get your system to work. I suppose that you want PS Audio to source the music too? :D

Foobar CAN be remotely controlled.

@wingsounds13 Trouble is, a network music player was announced several years ago by PS Audio as something they would be rolling out for the Bridge, but it has yet to materialize. And the Bridge has yet to play perfect ball with 3rd-party products, much less PS Audio’s own.

Thanks for clearing that up. I'm going to get it set up when I get home, hopefully. I'll be ready for WaveStream when it is released for Mac at least.

No, I did not mean the whole system, but PWD/Bridge. It would be quite strange if, for example, Linn would say that their VirtualSound card will work with JRiver only. Or Canon 5DmarkIII photo camera with Tokina lenses.

Yes, if you use UPnP plugin and will use foobar as a UPnP server. I do not think it will work with WaveStream.

We just received a new version of WaveStream but after evaluating it we felt that there wasn’t enough repaired to warrant releasing it. I’ll let you know when there’s something to report.

and for the little Mac people?? [-O<

Alekz: Foobar can be remote controlled from any UPnP remote, but I don’t get gapless that way.

ANY computer audio will work with WaveStream. Even Foobar when being operated by remote control. I have had excellent results when using MonkeyMote with Foobar. OOPS… MonkeyMote is an iThing app, so you can’t or won’t use it.

I would do most anything within reason to make my system work. Heck! I already have - I purchased a despised Apple iPad - used. These days you can get an android tablet cheap, and even a used iPad or new iPad Mini for not too much. The limit here is mostly personal bias and/or stubbornness. If you can afford a system built around a PWD, you can likely manage to purchase the accessories needed to make it allmworkmat its best.

+1
For me foobar is the ultimate player solution, above JRiver that i bought and tested and i don't use anymore (too heavy for my need and instable sometimes).
Foobar is light, fast, easy for tagging, library scanning and monitoring at best!
Furthermore, i use it with the dedicated foobar android controler, very smart to use, quick search, manage playlists, etc.

Of course I use foobar, but it cannot be remotely controlled if used with WaveStream, so it's not relevant.

If Wavestream is a virtual sound card as announced, you set in Foobar properties output audio device to Wavestream and control it with your android device thanks the dedicated foobar control program called foobarcon.
Cherry on the cake: lyrics while playing on the covert art :)

Never heard of it. Thanks!
