Gryphon PowerZone

The one good thing about me NOT purchasing lower quality power cables is that when I do buy power cables, i will go directly toward cables that others highly recommend, either Stealth or Front Row Reserve.

And @paul172 was kind enough to let me borrow improved power cables until I can purchase.

A while back we briefly discussed a library of our unused components. I like the idea of it, but currently I am just stupid busy to put any effort into it.

I had decent cables when I got my PowerZone. Had proper cables on hand for the PZ. So what to say…

Oh yeah, at AXPONA 2024 when Rune demonstrated the PZ he showed he was using extremely good cables when plugged just into the wall, not using the PZ. He then pointed out that when using the PZ he would use ordinary cables. When we heard the switch everyone Gasped! “How can this be??” We cried out. “Witchcraft!” I shouted.

There may be two dozen of us on this forum who own one. As safe bets go, it’s safe. The single most important cable is the one you feed it with. A Stealth 2020 is endgame. Get there quick. Be nice to have it at the start. The breakin process was a blast for me. Each week it blossomed. Fun times.

I just need to come up with the cash. With stealth it’s a good bit. I’ll figure something out! Have they added tariffs to it yet?

That depends. On Gryphon, yes. Talk to George. Stealth comes from New Jersey. Made by Russians, right here in 'Merica.

How does Pass Labs 160.8 mono compare to Gryphon D333? I know one is SS amp (two boxes), and one is integrated. But is there anyone here who has heard of both?

There is a local guy selling his 160.8, but I am not familiar with Pass sound. I am not sure I am interested at this point since their size and weight probably will not get approved by the MIP.

I can’t talk about Pass, but the Diablo 333 sounded quite nice at Axpona and off site at Kyomi, and I am a fussy tube-a-holic

Thanks, I heard the Pass Labs have a tube sound.

I should not even post the question because I am done with pure Class A, and I do not plan to go back there again. My listening level is probably 10 db lower than 10 years ago, and these mono amps will become too hot for sure. Wait! That was one of the main reasons I got rid of my previous amps.

I do not have a man cave like some of you, unfortunately.

Am going to go out on a limb and guess that the Krell preamp was the culprit with your old system

Could be and I would not know since I sold them at the same time. I do not remember the model for pre, but amps were KMA 160. Together the sound was warmer and quite dark, but the bass was awesome. I had enough of SS and switched to all tube BAT amps afterward.

Your next upgrade

Haha, I wish I could dig a basement, but I will be on a boat instead. The groundwater level is quite high at Redwood Shores area, so no house has basement
