Hum revisited

Have you tried running a ground wire from the chassis of the BHK amps to the ground lug of the Stellar Phono? Any wire with bare ends will do to start with.

Perhaps have that same electrician advise on the use of isolated ground receptacles (and conductor) for the audio circuits?

Did that licensed guy who is a stereo enthusiast

Electrical grounded polarity checks, ground checks good. Voltages in spec.

Not yet. I’m just thrilled I got results with cheater. Plus the distortion is gone using the amp cheater’s better the amps and power source.

Great suggestion I would have done that if the cheaters did not work.

If that simple trick works it would get the cheater plugs out of the way which would be safer.

Well, not a bad idea to cut off the ground pin. If you recall, our entire line of high end xStream power cables had removable ground pins for this very reason. As I said, you’ve found a cure by removing the ground connection. That would be enough for me.

Thank you. That’s an answer I appreciate.

I’m going to see if the high end plug is modular. More elegant solution

Worked like a charm and looks good. Needed a seemed though.

There is an audio industry mucky-muck, pretty well known, I can’t recall his name at the moment. He states any money spent on any power cords is money wasted. Completely wasted. Instead, use simple cable and always cut off the ground pin. Never hook any gear to the house ground. He believes this solves any and all noise issues and is the secret to audio happiness. Not to mention a money saving method. I think he may be the guy who makes those cables so many of you have. He makes interconnects and speaker cables, but no power cables.

(Because nobody really needs those)

I think @paul172 will remember this.

The Fidelium guy?

Yes. Fidelium guy suggested to me remove ground plugs on source gear not amplifiers or power condition. Namely DAC and CD player.

Appreciate the response. I too have trouble fully understanding the value of heavy duty cables as it relates to sound improvement.

The power cables I have are large and beefy looking but I mainly got them to have shortest possible connection between P15 and the amp. Minimizing cable clutter. Plus I like the look.

Dremelling off the ground pin allows the connection to the P15 to be solid. Also solves the hum problem. I put my faith in @paul when told it doesn’t need a chassis ground in this configuration from an electrical safety perspective.

The hum is gone, system is finally what I was hoping for sonically. It’s time to find something else to perseverate over.

Maybe I’ll try and find justification for the power plants.

Of course it would be fun to upgrade to the PMG world but that’s likely for another lifetime.

Ooh, ooh; a new word, “perseverate“. I love learning new (to me) words.

Glad you have the hum sorted. Enjoy the music!
