Maybe you think too much? Hmm
Yikes! Has the thread turned into a critique of film? We’ve got a thread dedicated to cinephiles (or not as the case may be for some). Have more than one bone to pick with Avatar: The Way of Water. The original was, IMHO, groundbreaking. Never had a bone to pick with Titanic.
I’ll reserve that for the film thread.
My new racquetball racquet is something I really want to talk about.
What LPS are you using with it?
Let’s not ignore pickle ball rackets (paddles ?).
Oh God no!!
Not sure if either of these have been mentioned yet, but…
Lindsey Buckingham
Thom Yorke
Will Smith
Lindsey because of all the crap he caused Fleetwood Mac over the years. He’s somewhat a douche.
Yorke because he’s an arrogant, cocky little SOB.
Smith because he’s “whipped” by his cheating wife (open relationship) and he slaps people for no reason. LOL
Lindsey’s’ latest album is really good.
I don’t care one way or another about Thom.
Will Smith is no longer a person to me.
Now the guy who does Dilbert is in the news for saying some perfectly racist nonsense.
Is nothing sacred?
I agree that Buckingham’s last album is very good. After the band fired him he sued them. Ultimately the band folded like a cheap lawn chair and settled out of court. Two sides to everything. A little disappointed in Mike Campbell for stepping into that mess. Guess he needed a paycheck.
I wish I didn’t visit this thread at all. But I’m not about to get rid of 1/4 of my CDs yet.
Oh, play the CDs and love the music, and don’t think about the schittee.
I am not getting rid of any of my music. But I haven’t reached for any Eric Clapton cds in a very long time.
I am also burnt out completely on the Pixies.
Burnt out on the Pixies?!?! Blasphemy!
Same. I despise Roger Waters, but I still listen to Pink Floyd on occasion. By contrast, it has been easy not to listen to Clapton of late. There are so many blues guitarists whose music I enjoy who aren’t/weren’t virulent racists or hate-filled anti-vaxxers.
Here’s a semi-obscure one for ya – Bassist Roy Estrada (a/k/a “Roy Ralph Moleman Guacamole Guadalupe Hidalgo Estrada”).
Roy is a charter member of Frank Zappa’s Mothers of Invention and Little Feat (which are two of my favorite musical groups). He and Lowell George left the Mothers to form Little Feat. Roy plays bass and sings backup on numerous classic albums.
Roy is also a convicted child molester serving a 25-year term in the Texas State Prison System (after having served a six-year term on a prior child sexual abuse conviction).
Ernest Ansermet - Antisemitic pig/Nazi collaborator. No thanks…too many great conductors on record in the last 100 years to waste my time with this guy…
If a Clapton urge were to hit me, I’d reach for Buddy Guy, Luther Allison, Howlin’ Wolf or Albert Collins. Heck, I’d even pull some Cedel Davis up!
In my younger days I’d play Cream, Blind Faith, Bonnie and Delaney, and Clapton up to and including Derek and the Dominoes incessently. Burned out on Clapton, now that the word is out on Eric I just find other listening opportunities that hold my interest. Same with Pink FLoyd from their earliest releases upto and including Wish You Were Here. They lost me after that. Listened to DSOTM for the fiftieth and honestly the whole time it was playing my mind wandered, more or less considering other non-Pink music I could be listening to. Such as Maggot Brain!
Had no idea, and in this case the creep is paying for his sins. I still lean hard on Zappa and Little Feat, bit of a guilty pleasure I suppose.
Valery Gergiev has long been one of my favorite contemporary conductors. He’s among the artists with close ties to Putin and he has been persona non grata on the stage in most of the world since the invasion of Ukraine. While his moral compass seems to have lost its bearing for “true north” with regard to the war my appreciation for his skills remain. He, Nebtrenko, and all the other Russian artists sucked into that moral morass are our time’s equivalent of Karajan and Furtwängler.
I do appreciate that it can be treacherous ground for Russian artists to risk angering the political establishment. Dancers and choreographers employed by the Kirov, Bolshoi, etc. would lose their connections with those great institutions if they spoke out. So they lay low and hope the day comes when better conditions arise.
This thread is depressing.
