I’ve just recently swapped out the stock DSMP I2S cable & replaced it with the BJC Series-FE as the stock PS Audio cable I have is barely 50 cms & not long enough in my Hi Fi Rack (see picture below & how the DSJnr is sat back so only too short by about 10-15 cms)…
Anyway, just wanted to say that I did notice a diff in SQ switching to the BJC as the music seemed to loose an element of 3rd dimensionality & was more distant, not enveloping me as much…it also seemed a little thin with a slightly harsher front edge to the music?
I’ve spoken to Magenta in Australia to source a longer PS Audio HDMI/I2S cable so I don’t have to spend silly money on AQ, VDH etc…
On Amazon, there is a company called ECHOGEAR that is selling the HDMI 2.1 cable for $13.99. There is a 4 ft. and 8 ft. size available. I do not know if the cable is i2s usable. I might try it as a test. I have no financial connection to this company !
It is expensive but there is a noticeable improvement. The included I2S cable is very good. The Platinum has beautiful construction with carbon fiber connectors. I also like how flexible it is.
I tried an Audioquest Vodka I had in between the DSD and DMP and it sounded slightly worse than the included cable. I would be interested if anyone has compared any of the more expensive AQ cables vs the included cable and found the difference to be significant (especially since most of my listening is via streaming these days so it would need to be huge).
Forgot to say. Also tried an AQ Forest (which I think is cheaper than the Vodka). It sounded slightly better than the Vodka, but still worse than the cable that came with the DMP (for me at least).
I ordered a Wireworld Platinum starlight HDMI. I already have the USB version and, it’s by far the best digital cable I’ve used. I also have the platinum starlight coaxial.
Also ordered the platinum starlight ethernet cable.
I had been using an Audioquest Diamond between my DMP and my DSD DAC. I recently purchased a dedicated I2S cable from Revelation Audio (Prophecy Cryosilver) and there is no going back for me. A huge increase in soundstage height, width and depth. Increased detail without glare, brightness or grunge. About 2/3 the cost of the Audioquest. I have been happily rediscovering my CD/SACD/DVD audio collection!
This last post got me to look up Revelation Audio Labs and reviews, as I’m not familiar with their cables. They seem to be well reviewed, although I’m not clear if Saddle is referring to the I2S Digital Link cable or the the HDMI one, the latter not really being I2S dedicated but compatible. In any case, potential buyers might want to be aware of the following thread about RAL on Audiogon, the owner’s statement at the bottom of his home page, also linked here, which I take as a general reply, and the 20% restocking fee on 30-day audition returns that can be found under the legal info linked at the bottom of the reviews page.
Yes it took 3 months for this thing to arrive. I was thinking I’d been cheated when it showed up finally. When I ordered the cable he sent a disclaimer noting that it would be awhile before the cable arrived, he claims due to the need for burning in on his cable cooker. If you are in a hurry look elsewhere. Never the less this is the best sounding HDMI CABLE I have heard between my PS audio pieces which is why I posted my comments.
This is something I am still struggling with. The tonal balance per se did not seem to change much from the Audioquest. What changed most was soundstaging, wider, taller and deeper. The front of the soundstage seemed to move forward while the rear of the soundstage moved backward. Much more space between the players and much more detail without an increase in brightness, glare, or grunge. My system is ML Summit based, with arc pre and rowland 8T power amp. Most other cables are Purist Dominus except between the DAC and preamp which is Teo audio liquid cable (XLR).
As a former crabby skeptic re. hdmi cable differences, I’m extremely pleased (surprised) at the improvement that a Wireworld Silver Starlight cable has made. So much more detail, leading edge information, the $250. at Audio Connexion was well worth it.
It replaced a Harmonic Tech “Magic” which replaced an Audioquest “Carbon”. It’s in another world from those.
Thanks @JMK for the tip.
The WW SS is at the upper end of my of my “goodness, it’s how much?” scale. At the price from Parts Connexion it’s enough to get it over the line for me, even with international freight and exchange rate pain. So for US buyers it’s a great price. P.S. Ron this really is getting a bit spooky. I went from an Audioquest (admittedly a Vodka) to Harmonic Tech to Wireworld SS.
No doubt the Platinum sounds great but the price is too much for me to even contemplate.
