Can anyone recommend an HDMI (i2s) cable to use between the DMP and DSD that they are particularly happy with? I am looking to experiment.
I am currently using an Audioquest Vodka which works well. Interestingly, I purchased a higher priced model in the Audioquest line, the Coffee but for whatever reason, it’s not as good as the Vodka for i2s. Anyone familiar with the Furutech HDMI cable? They make some amazing (and pricey) power cables but their HDMI is reasonably priced. OK, if $300 is reasonable for a 2M length of wire…
This recommendation is not a reasonable price recommendation, but rather a top performance recommendation. First, to use this cable you must stack the units (DMP + DSD) as described in the manual ( be sure to remove the rubber feet from the top unit ). The cable is a Wireworld Starlight Platinum 0.3 meter (i.e. one foot) HDMI cable. It fits perfectly when the units are stacked, it is as short as possible and since it is all silver wire it really adds snap, pace and rhythm to the sound. Highly recommended. Of course, such things seldom come cheap - $500 for the one foot cable. Ouch!
I used the supplied PS cable and later replaced it with an Audioquest Carbon which made a surprising difference. So big an improvement that I think the stock cable is a liability and shouldn’t be included.
The hdmi cable that is supplied with the DMP can no way even compete with a Wireworld Starlight Platinum Series 7. I could not listen with the generic PS cable for any length of time…before it was yanked… and replaced with the Wireworld…

I guess I’ll have to borrow this series 7 cable and check it out however the factory supplied cable I have no issues with at all , the sound quality coming out of my large Focal speakers is riveting . I understand the PS Audio supplied cable is manufactured by KimberKable and sells for about $70.00 so this comparison between the two cables should be interesting with the series 7 selling for $700.00 for 1/2 meter .

Or 12 inches for $500.00. I stack my DMP/DS and that length is perfect for my needs. From all that I gather, the shorter the better for hdmi applications. Remember the WW is directional...Let’s us know what you think when you get a chance...

Interesting, I did find Kimber Cables to have a very wide soundstage but in my system they lacked center image. I use the PSA supplied cable and love the sound of the DSMP to my DS Dac, but in the constant search for the holy grail, I would consider other cables to test.

Mark-d can you offer more details on the sound difference or improvement with the WW cable?

For my system and my tastes, the WW just sounds right. There are no frequency's that stand out one over the other to draw attention to the listening experience, ie; pulling you away from the enjoyment of the music at hand. The body and structure of a good/great recording holds up very very well. This cable has a wonderful natural/organic characteristic to it...Just right.
Details of the bass, mid and treble are killer and with that detail comes the amazing ability to see deeper into a mix with zero etch or bloat that will grow fatiguing after a while. This is a silver wire but totally lacking in the silver brightness that many dislike… With that being said…the WW does require some run in time out of the box. The attributes of silver wire [some brightness] do come through in the initial phase of listening, but give it time and things do settle in superbly if I do say so myself. I could not change the WW if I wanted to…its that good! And this coming from a hdmi skeptic before hearing and ultimately believing that hdmi cables do make a huge difference… as much as any other cable in your system. Maybe even more so, with this WW hdmi…
I have the Wireworld Platinum 7 .3M and it’s really nice. I hear more detail than with the PSA supplied cable. Maybe due to the silver. I have my units stacked so the short cable works perfect.
