Yippee!
At one point in my life, I had lived and worked in Philly. A fantastic, culturally rich and very friendly city; unless of course you were a NY Islanders fan.
I was fortunate to have been able to attend concerts at PFA conducted by the then resident conductor, Riccardo Muti, and to have worked at Live Aid when it came to town. I lived in West Philly, just a few blocks away from the original American Bandstand studios and not far from where Will Smith [Fresh Prince of Bel Aire] came from . I also lived through the “move” conflagration set off by the Philly PD dropping a five pound block of C4 into their residence, just ten blocks from the rowhouse I was living in at that time. Oh, and my neighbors were a meth dealing biker gang. Fun times for sure. Ah, the 1980’s…
Your article brought back memories of Bowie’s '76 ‘Station To Station’ tour which was influenced by his Philadelphia and Berlin sounds.
Cool article! Three Bowie records became a significant part of my life, for various reasons: hunky dory, ziggy, and young Americans. Great memories!
I saw Yes in the round at The Spectrum in '78. Mind blowing!
This morning’s Guardian.
Not always the best of papers (but goodness knows it’s generally better than the rest in the UK), but they
do cover quite a bit of music, hence all the articles that make it here from many of us
Betteridge’s law of headlines hovering close by in the wings there
of course
40 minutes gone, nothing like brevity. and I’m a Shunyata fan for the most part. More YouTube Bloat. Elk got it right regarding YouTube videos in general.
RIP Roger Whittaker
Some info about the Atlantic Records 75 series from AP. I noticed this while I made my weekly visit to the website hoping to see the Steely Dan Pretzel Logic SACD finally shipping.
Been waiting for that as well.
