I realized that I do not have a serious collection of live recordings, which is a shame, so please list your favourites. So I can do some shopping…

Puh - with that question I just realized that most all of my favorite albums are not live recordings… Anyhow, here a list of some of my long-time favs:

  • Bob Marley - Babylon by Bus
  • AC/DC - If You Want Blood You’ve Got It (Live)
  • Fat Freddy’s Drop - Live At Roundhouse
  • Mother’s Finest - Mother’s Finest Live
  • Deep Purple - Made In Japan
  • Talking Heads - Stop Making Sense

Peter Gabriel “Plays Live” has been been a favorite ever since I bought it over 30 years ago (!).

  • Allman Bros - Live at Fillmore East
  • Grateful Dead - Dicks Picks Vol 15 - Englishtown NJ 1977
  • Little Feat - Waiting for Columbus
  • Grateful Dead - Sunshine Daydream
  • Talking Heads - Stop Making Sense
  • Grateful Dead - Europe '72 (the entire box set)

That’s a start. I know there are many more.

The best live recording is “Live at Sluggs’” by Music, Inc. on Strata East Records ! The personnel are : Charles Tolliver, Stanley Cowell, Jimmy Hopps, and Cecil McBee !
