Looking at speaker possibilities. Comments / advice welcome- thank you

I have two pairs of Vivids. I am not shopping for speakers but a few stood out at Axpona. Those ugly weird speakers stood out.

Another to consider may be GoldenEar towers. I love my Triton Reference, and probably can be found used in similar price range. They have the brand new T66, reviewed in the August 2024 Stereophile. Haven’t heard em, but may also be worth a listen. Retail around $7k new.

I had GoldenEar way back when they first came out. I forgot the model, but a good value.

Thanks to all for the ideas. Like I mentioned above, I figured Id learn something and I did.

Arendal I think i could try. There seems to be no downside.

My first shot though to try will be Monitor Platinum 300s. Was their flagship till their 95k monster. The new one is 17k. These are previous G3 and used but a 9 of ten and in ebony which looks really nice.

First test are my playlists with acoustic, then jazz then on to Jesse Cook and Santana then something light like Lou Reed and Volbeat.

Also see how they do in low light low spl tests. I got a 30 day in home trial.

I also looked at ATC actives which is an interesting concept.

If i chose right, than anything “better” will lead me back to Dyn and Wilson. Not there are not more out there, but I am familiar with those two brands.

It’s been awhile since I’ve heard ATC’s while in the studio or at my home (SCM20’s) but they should be considered. Best cone midrange you will hear, their own 4” soft dome, which starts in the SCM40. With integral amps, or without, they are a great value and occasionally pop up on TMR, who is also dealer.

I liked Alta speakers. Several of their speakers sounded very good at Axpona (Adam in particular), until I had the FR20 at home for a year. Then they did not sound as impressive anymore. My mindset could always change again.

ATC has my attention. Monitor Audio not so much.

ATC looks like it has potential. I would of had to adjust quite a bit to accommodate. But I have interest.

Monitor only makes one speaker I had any interest in. P300. So I dont blame ya.

I n my humble opinion, the cones create the problem.

Update.

Monitor PL300. Returned

DeVore Gibbon Super 9s. Inbound

Lets see what these little guys can do. Reviews
are positive in many aspects I am looking forward to such as image/sound stage.

Gonna give them a try. Im betting the sound is a good fit for the Accuphase. Thanks for your input

If it turns out that the Gibbons are not it then you might want to look at the pair of QLN’s and Salk’s they have in stock.

So aural memory is terrible. But sitting here right now, the 9s are the best sounding speaker Ive ever owned. So far, no comprimise genre to genre or low to high volume.

No bite or compression. Great detail and by far the imaging is better than I have heard. I got voices etc six feet to my left or right but across all songs very nice center sound stage.

Just peachy.

There is a pair of Silverbacks on USAM, a step up from the 9’s

Im not sure thats a step up at all. Review I saw was 2006. Thats old. The only “step up” im aware of is probably the current Gibbon X.

And im not aware of a speaker that does anything better at this point. Especially imaging. And i have had Confidence 30s and DAWs.

Thank you though. Thats a great speaker for that price. Shipping is terrible these days. I wanted to avoid that…
