True Brett, however Jan states having a large dresser where everything “could fit”. The S2-EX bottom end extends down to 33Hz (room response) and has Superb bass tonality, punch and with very accurate midrange. Of course the ribbon RAAL is also a Superb tweeter. Overall presentation is closer to the RAAL Towers vs the S2!
I have thought about buying the kit from Dave to upgrade them but they are just used out in my workshop. I do have some acoustic treatment on the ceiling though
Too true!! But it’s a little complicated. I own an SX-1050. It was my first serious audio purchase way back in 1977. Until recently it spent about 25 years in my closet. I brought it out to try it in my TV system because I didn’t like the audio quality of my AVR. The 1050 was great in comparison, but developed an intermittent problem. My long time audio repair guy didn’t want to work on it, said the 950 was way easier to work on, sell the 1050, buy a 950, and he could make it sound wonderful for around $400. So I bought one off eBay and paid for him to test every component, replace those not in spec, and resolder as needed. Then I discovered that the problems I was experiencing with the 1050 were because of a bad speaker wire connection (!!!); it was causing the intermittent problem. I don’t dare sell the 850 or my audio guy will “kill” me. And I can’t bear to part with the 1050. I know I’m being foolish, but that’s the way it is.
ProAc Tablette 10 gives the Harbeths strong competition at significantly lower price:
I have the 11 liter version but these 7 liter guys I bet would be worth a listen. I bought used from the UK for far less than new in US.

I am taking a sudden turn to powered speakers. When I tested it, I really can’t imagine fitting the Pioneer AND three pieces of Audio Alchemy gear AND two speakers on top my dresser., it just doesn’t work.
However, I’ve had a really good tip for powered speakers. Elac Navis ARB-51 Bookshelf speakers. They are really small, which is good, but they are powered by three amplifiers and they are Class A/B! About the only thing I do not particularly like are the colors but let’s face it, that doesn’t affect audio quality. Comments, please!
I bet the ELACs would sound great. But if you’re buying new, and can get a couple different things to test and return what you don’t want, that would be the ticket.
The new KEF LS50 Wireless II are also supposed to be stunners.
Plus, they come in interesting colors. Because, as you’ve found, it’s not only about the audio quality (otherwise you’d live with your dresser being full of audio equipment)
Oh, a little more expensive, but the Buchardt Actives are supposed to be really good.
99.9% Pure Beryllium Drivers…enough said.
I have both the P3ESR and ProAc Tablette 10 Signatures. That reviewer is 100% wrong. Six feet away and they will sound amazing!
The question I don’t see in the thread here is this: How far away from the rear wall are these speakers going to be? If very close, don’t get anything rear ported. The KEF LSX and LS50 both sound choked if they are within 12 - 18" of the rear wall.
