It has been a long process but I now have a complete Stealth chain…interconnects, speaker cables and power cords. The sum of the parts sound great.
This path has taken me through all Iconoclast and AQ Dragon (power cords only). In rough terms, the cost has doubled with each tier. So, it begs the question whether these moves warrant the expense. I say yes.
I did not go through the process of matching cables from a pool of different manufacturers to various components. I’m too lazy for that and I believe that the shared design of a single maker has cumulative positive benefits.
It may be that a “foolishness consistency” is the hobgoblin of an audiophile’s mind, but it seems to work for me. Fools unite!
Oh, another bias that has been reinforced in this process is that these improvements vary in the type cable being evaluated. The most-to-least benefit in a particular cable group was:
-analog XLR interconnects (DAC to amps)
-speaker cables (2pr.)
-digital XLR interconnect (CD to DAC)
-power cable - sources (CD/DAC)
-Ethernet cable - (Muon Pro to DAC)
-power cable - amps
There are so many variables that can affect this hierarchy but that’s my take. On to the next one.
Did you feed your Gryphon Power Zone with a Stealth as well? Having heard the Gryphon Power Zone with a Dragon I was more than impressed.
You are fortunate to be able to have the means to implement such a cable upgrade. Congrats.
Yes. The PZ was powered by a Dragon as well as a Dream 20-20. Several system and room changes were a foot at that time, so the comparison was not perfect. I noticed a subtle change here but not to the extent of other cable swaps. Hence, it’s at the bottom of the “benefits” list.
My opinion is that the PZ, just like the P20, reveals the quality of the cable in front of it. Can’t skimp here.
Here I am! As fool as I can!
Congrats!
I fully admit I bought all top of the line Stealth cables just so I could be done and give cables no more concern ever again.
I am grateful the rewards are so obvious and so enjoyable. Could another brand make me as happy? Most likely. But I am done now. Next topic.
(NOT GROUND CONTROL PLEASE)
Major Tom? Grounding is THE next thing. No, not really. These black boxes that somehow scrub digital noise out of the air are intriguing. But honestly, BAACH has been the most paradigm shifting technology I’ve see in decades.
But it is a fad and its time is almost up. The next fad is learning to play the instruments yourself and listening as you play. It can’t get more real than real.
Who is to decide “if is live or is it Memorex? Inquiring minds want to know.
Page one of the TEACH YOURSELF GUITAR manual:
This is a Pick. You use it to strum the strings. It makes them vibrate.
Until the Stealth Ethereal Grand Cru 2024s come out. Then I’ll be able to buy yours at a nice price.
It’s nice to have goals, better to have realistic goals.
Point one, how many things have I put up for sale here?
I will give you a clue, less than one.
I don’t sell, I loan out for extended periods of time. Or just give outright.
I should start thinking about what criteria I will use to decide who gets my cast aways.
A commendable criterion should be to extend your reach all over the world, having no borders will make your generous mission more glorious!
Yep, sounds like a right nice plan.
I’m happy for all you loyal Stealth Audio cable owners!
Loving my newest Cloude Grande on both the EMM Labs DV2i and Taiko Extreme!
I asked Serguei at Stealth about best locations for these new cords.
He replied :
The Cloude Grande is best used on the following components but this is up to your discretion:
Preamp, Phono, DAC, Streamer, and clock.
The Cloude Grande Ag is best for the CD player or transport - or streamer.
The best combination is a Gryphon Ethos with the Cloude Grande Ag.
It is a Whats Best forum classic configuration.
- Serguei
I can confirm this. I purchased the Cloude Grande AG with my Gryphon Ethos. Added V17 Sakra LEs as well. Nice combo.
Topic update. I need to re-evaluate my initial cable findings with an addendum. That is, you don’t fully know what you’re getting until they are fully cooked.
In the case of the Stealth Cloude Grande Cu’s
recently installed on the MU2 and Jay’s CD, they have gotten better, much better.
I have not discounted the “break-in effect” in the past but it has never yielded this much improvement.
Streaming is the biggest winner here. Differences between CD and streaming playback are slight, more attributable to the quality of the recording than the format.
In the future I will try to adopt patience as a virtue and try not roll my eyes when someone says “it takes 500 hours of burn in”. I will still look for and desire immediate gratification, but a marriage for the long haul is what I seek.
Al, I heard the PowerZone is now so 2024. You should let someone that has tubes and bad cables borrow it for a while…
I’m waiting for PowerZone 3.10V2 to come out.
That would be interesting but in a recent interview I watched with Rune Skov he discussed how it’s not Gryphon’s way to come out with newer improved versions of the same product like a PowerZone 3.10.2. The Diablo 300 was in production for 10 years before the Diablo 333 was launched as an example.
Thanks Paul, but I was just kidding.
