LS50 question

Ha! Thanks, but I’m sticking with my classic models. I don’t spend enough time listening to always remember that I genuinely love my system.

In light of the sale price every place is offering, I bought a pair of LS50 Metas and matching stands (in blue).

The first hour or so they sounded dreadful, tinny and harsh. They quickly settled in and already sound very good after perhaps 10 hours.

Both the speakers and stands are beautifully made, flawless finish, arrived in perfect condition. Great addition to my lower level system.

Congrats. I got my “C-Grade” Cambridge CXN (v2) into the system. I’ve lost the ability to play direct DSD into my SGCD, but I do have album art and a remote with real buttons, so, I’m calling that a win. Still digging into it. It came with a rattle on the inside so I opened it up and found a thin plastic sheet floating around in there. No idea where it came from, so it lives outside the box now. Maybe I’ll just keep the Pi down there for when I get the desire to listen to DSD.

Happy New Year.

Starting Pete Best as the Poky Little Puppy.

There is something real satisfying about something that looks small yet plays big. I can’t say over the years what I have enjoyed more, the compact English two-way (LS35a, ATC SM20) or the monolithic American planar (Quad, Accustat, Magnaplanar). If you can live without that lowest octave, an accurate 2-way can check a lot of boxes. Have fun with the LS50 Metas, a great choice.

I will wait until they are more expensive again and then decide I have to have them. Doh.

Fully agreed. Small speakers can be magical. These have just enough bass to be satisfying. The bass contnues to improve.

And they are easy to set up to sound good. I will fine tune their placement but they can almost be plopped down with little efort.

I am powering them with a Cary V12R, a nice pairing.

Do you have an opinion about whether these KEFs would work well in a near field/desktop setting?

TIA

I believe they would would well.

As a one way the sound is integrated at any distance and the speaker’s off axis sound is superb.

I bet placing them a bit further apart than an equilateral triangle faced directly ahead would be wonderful.

I will try to remember to do some near field listening and report back.

The current price is amazing. I do not know whether they will continue to be offered at this price or will go back up.

Edit: I see some sellers have already raised the price back up.

Nice! Never sell that thing.

Excellent advice!

Sale promotion extended to Jan 17!!

With time they will come into their own, say 200 hours. I found a pair of REL 5i subwoofers complemented them nicely in our small den.

They do well with near field listening IME. Separated by about 4.5 feet. in our office at the moment.

Thanks!
