LS50 question

Awesome setup; thank you for sharing. I hate to derail this LS50 thread (perhaps you could PM me) - I am curious if you had experience without the A-Pods on your A5’s and could comment on their improvement, if any. Thank you!

Maybe we should turn this into another coffee thread. Or not.

@umiami91 definitely convert this topic to another coffee thread.

I’m hoping to pivot the perfectwave mod thread into a deep exploration of wine storage or possibly natural disaster preparedness. I just can’t decide.

I need to pay for a few pieces of gear I have added and get a Grimm MU2. So I will not be upgrading my old LS50s. I think that will be survivable.

How very odd. I just heard about that wonder box today for the very first time. It is alas well out of my price range, but I wish you the best in your quest.

I have an MU1 already. That is the biggest reason why I am considering it. The MU1 is one of my favorite pieces. I love everything about it. I have very high regard for Eelco Grimm. I read his white papers on what they considered when designing the new DAC. It is a one if a kind design, a 1.5 bit DAC. The first and only if its kind. Its not as expensive as my motorcycle. I can’t resist. I am weak. But I absolutely don’t have the funds for it right now. This may be a spring or summer thing. I am a lottery win away from great solutions for problems that don’t exist!

Sorry can’t help you here. I never try the original feet. At 180lbs each not sure if I will put in the effort to try anytime soon. Reading people impressions tells me this works and I trust Magico to deliver quality products so never real check. That and I like the look better than stock

Wine storage IS natural disaster preparedness!!

Just learned of the LS50 Meta sale, and at the current price they are hard to pass up. When I heard the original LS50 I thought they were fine but a bit harsh on the top end, and somewhat limited in punch and drive. I have since picked up a pair of LS50 Meta speakers, and find them to be a significant step up over the original version. The upper end is cleaner, midrange detail is great and for a small speaker the bass is just fine. It comes down to your budget. You will need to figure in the cost of stands as well, and don’t skimp. I am using a pair of Target R4 stands I had that were not being used, so no additional cost.
The KEF Reference R3 Meta will be a step up for sure, but at a price of $2199. The LRS Maggies are a whole different breed of cat IME. Nothing wrong with Maggies, but they tend to dominate a room, and require more attention to amplifier pairing.

When initially auditioning small speakers I preferred the Vandersteen VLR CT, but they require placement against or very near the rear wall. Such placement eliminated them from further consideration. Ultimately I went with new Aerial 5T speakers, considerably more money, but they satisfied my sonic priorities and are well suited to my choice in music. I have added a pair of REL 5i subwoofers (the term subwoofer is rather generous for the 5i) to good effect. If you have speaker stands and $1k burning a hole in your pocket why not pick-u a pair of LS50 Metas?

At some point after New Years my “pre-sale Metas” will likely go up for sale. Amplification is a lowly Hegel H120, digital input is an Innuos ZEN Mk3. Wire is Iconoclast. The combination makes for a fine small den digital listening system. Good luck with your decision.

You are most welcome to borrow mine… but ya better upgrade that Onkyo…

He sure likes to talk, lots of words, little content and what is there is presented over, and over, and . . .

Seems to be a nice guy however.

I’m not an especially nice guy. I try, but…

It is good to have a goal.

Totally agree with Chris. That’s the path I took and it was well worth it, The R3 Metas are in a class to themselves.

Who?

Wine storage can turn into a nice investment too. I have collected some French Bordeaux from the 80s that have become too valuable for me to drink (CA Cab. to a much lesser degree).

The best red that I have ever tasted from my own cellar was 1982 Ch. Latour followed by 1986 Mouton R. I still remember how great they were from a few years back. Over the years I have tried many highly rated wines from my collection but these two remained the best.

Surely Elk can’t be referring to me as we all know I am not a nice guy.

Well I guess you had me fooled.

Meh - I figured it was me. I always go on WAY too long and seem to take threads off topic. It’s fine. It’s a motivator to shut my damned mouth.

Nah, I tend to repeat myself when dehydrated, (a self induced stupor) which was the case. BTW, let me know if you’d like to borrow a pair of LS50 Metas.
