Matrix X-SPDIF 2

Interesting observations. I’m looking seriously at the Matrix as a potential route to avoid the Bridge but as I have no problems with pops and glitches or gapless playback via my network (which has optical isolation for the DAC) I do wonder whether there would be sufficient benefit.

It should simply work. iPad -> Apple Camera Adapter -> USB cable -> DAC. You need to activate the iPad as Roon endpoint, but when it plays through the speakers, that’s obviously done. Maybe start a new thread and post your Roon setting and a photo of all devices and cables.

I agree @Philipp_Schaefer and @eldrick, I do this all the time with my iPhone 7 thru the ACA to my iFi xDSD DAC, when I go walking with my in-ears in my ears (obviously). It works with Qubuz and Roon for sure…!

What IIS port configuration are you using for our DS? A web suggests 1-OFF 2-OFF 3-ON.

Is that correct?

DoP to Native (1) -> on
IIS Reverse (2) -> off
MCLK (3) -> off

Thank you!

I’m trying to reproduce a DSF64 file vía Roon but blue light is still on. What DSD method do i need to choose to get the native signal?

Thanks again!

Now is clear! Thanks again!

From Roon also make sure you set DSD to native and not DOP.

Is that possible? I have only dop option with straight usb cable to dsd.Does Matrix spdif in between let you choose native?

Several people on this board have recommended the Matrix for use with the DS. Has anyone compared the DS using ethernet and the bridge (or usb) input to the Matrix?

Also, I’ve searched online and the only sellers I can find are on eBay and are located in China. The manufacturer, who also seems to be in China, is out of stock. I’m a little reluctant to buy fron one of these eBay sellers, although some get high ratings, because I’m concerned if there’s a defective product or where to get tech support if needed. Has anyone found a US source or can someone recommend a good seller? Thanks!

This has been covered here: Matrix X-SPDIF 2

Thanks. One more question that I didn’t see covered. I’m only moderately tech savvy at best. I am using an Innuous Zenith 3 server with my DS. I use Roon/Tidal and an iPhone and iPad. I also have a Windows 10 PC on the same network.

Will the Matrix work with my configuration? I just looked at the Matrix instruction manual and was a little put off by the dip switch settings, the software download, etc. . Is it easy for someone who has little tech knowledge to set up?

That’s the USA distributor.

There’s a long Matrix thread, on which no one has had issue with getting it setup…

Yep, in my setup the Melco delivers DoP via usb to the Matrix which ‘transcodes’ and delivers native dsd via hdmi to the DS.

Easy peasy, connected to the Melco it’s just plug ‘n play :wink:

Ted Smith has recently posted on the topic of USB and i2S with regard to Native vs. DoP, in which he stated that no matter what comes into the DirectStream DAC, it will be converted to DoP by the DS anyway. If I am not mistaken, it seems having the Matrix feed the DS DAC Native requires a superfluous conversion as it would be received by the Matrix as DoP, then converted by the Matrix to Native, then converted back to DoP by the DS DAC. See below post.

So with my configuration (Innuous Zenith 3 server, DS, Roon/Tidal, iPad and Windows 10 computer on same network in another room), do I need to download the Matrix software on my PC? Do anything with the dip switches? Or is it just plug and play?

Windows drivers are only needed in case one connects to computer via usb (so the computer will recognize the Matrix as a selectable audio device).
