DancingSea - let me know if u get notification of a tracking number etc.
My order from China shipped today. I got fedex confirmation about it.
Will do
Out of curiosity, when and from whom did you place your order?
Matrix-digi.com yesterday. I asked them when will they ship as their stock is zero…and got fedex tracking number and product shipped info back
I just checked that site again. Now their status is : in stock
I see, you ordered from the Chinese website. But I see that the USA Matrix website also now lists it as in stock, so hopefully the rest of us will receive Fedex notification soon.
The Mocha and Bootzilla HDMI cables are here, ready for the shootout!
So, here’s a thing. I have always been a Snowmass v3.00 fan. However, now that I use AQ diamond usb + matrix + mocha hdmi, I found the sound a bit too thick, even for me! So I downloaded v3.0.5 and I think I prefer it now over 3.0.0
Well that’s interesting. So you are finding a tonality difference between a Diamond usb straight in vs the new combo? I don’t think I have heard anyone express a tonality diff with the matrix / I2S vs their original setup.
So couple of stupid questions while I await my matrix. So the dip switches - putting native dsd on means the dip switch is up towards the ‘on’ label - and ‘off’ is down towards the label that reads ‘native dsd’.
Secondly - where I used to use the ps audio driver for my usb hookup - I will now use the supplied driver by matrix on my win10 laptop. I don’t recall if this is a change in control panel in the sound config - as well as a change in jriver?
Thx for the ‘pre-help’. Btw - I never waited to the last minute to code my programs in college either.
@timm - Don’t set the Matrix to convert to native DSD. Why? Because, per Ted, the DirectStream is just going to convert it back to DOP anyway so don’t cause it extra work as that won’t help the sound quality.
Also interested hearing if any of you are using external lps with Matrix? I have Uptone Audio lps 1.2 and Zenwave audio upocc dc cable waiting Matrix to arrive in a week or so.
And if anyone have tried active optical hdmi cable? I have used Ruipro for my 4k projector and it beats any other cable there, just amazing difference visually. But no idea how it sounds you can get it in 1m also but maybe not shorter.
Guess there will be a lot of hdmi sound comparisons in the future…
For the Matrix I use the SBooster Mk2 PSU from the Netherlands. It gives an audible improvement for me. The Matrix cuts off USB-power when operated with an external PSU, so maybe there is less noise travelling from the computer´s PSU to the Matrix over USB.
I am also thinking about optical hdmi-cables, but there are some facts that keep me from trying and even spending money. First, the optical fibre cables I found where all some “hybrid” constructions. They contain optical fibre for signal transport but also some copper wires (I guess for powering the emitter and receiver on both ends). So contrary to my first expectation there is no real galvanic isolation when using such a cable.
And second, there are mostly lengths of 5 meters and more (cause that is what they were built for: transfer of long distance 4K-signals) and I could hardly find any manufacturer offering cables at 1 meter length or even less.
And third, I suppose my current Wireworld HDMI at 30 cm length is not a bottleneck soundwise.
But I agree, these cables are really interesting and worth a try!
Good points and have to agree. And yes, with ww platinum you cant go wrong
But,i quess it is possible to get full galvanic isolation by the use of hdmi switch/repeater after matrix? Again one more thing to test at least picture wise my Inakustik 4k switch makes huge improvement. Well soon many will get their Matrixes and im sure here is a lot of : whats best sounding hdmi cable after that
Yep, but just an WW Ultraviolet, no Platinum. Could not justify the +400€.
I have the WW Silver Starlight which shares the same geometry as the Platinum, but with silver-plated copper instead of pure silver signal wiring. It is significantly cheaper. Upgrading to the Silver Starlight isn’t that much of a jump in price but would be worth it in terms of SQ improvement. This was the case in my system.
I do not believe this is correct. My understanding is that the DS can accept Native DSD via I2S. Before the Matrix, my setup was: Melco>USB>DS. When I played DSF files stored on the Melco, the DS would display “DOP.” After I installed the Matrix between the Melco and the DS (with the Matrix set to convert DOP to Native DSD), the DS now displays “DSD” when playing the same DSF files.
Whether setting the Matrix to convert DOP to Native DSD changes the sound is a different question, and one which I have not analyzed. I simply set the Matrix to convert DOP to Native DSD and forgot about it.
This was the post by Ted that @speed-racer was referring to in his post and that I posted earlier in the thread. It most certainly can accept Native DSD. But as Ted indicates, it eventually will get converted back to DoP within the DirectStream DAC. Whether one way sounds better than the other, Ted did not proclaim. However, he did indicate that feeding the DS DAC Native DSD does create an “extra step” beyond just feeding it DoP. For whatever that is worth…
Thanks, @JeffofArabica, and apologies to @speed-racer, apparently I missed that post by @tedsmith.
Ted, from a purely technical (i.e., non-sound quality) standpoint, do you recommend against converting DOP to Native DSD in the Matrix?
Thanks very much.
