When I moved and played with the MKII I put it on variable vol as I was testing something out on a small system. I forgot there was something that has to be done to put back to fixed. I have it set to fixed, but you can still go up and down on the vol. What did I forget?
Yeah I read that. But 100 fixed out for those with preamps? Seems to be. To me fixed should be hard set for pre and variable would be for those who have no pre.
Brian:
That’s exactly how my Stellar Gold works.
I like the MK2 on variable, even though I control main volume through the pre. It allows me to fine tune the volume using only 99/100 on the Dac.
It’s been a year since I moved and had to put things away. I think I settled on 92 or 94 as I thought it sounded less strained. If that makes sense.
I settled on 92 with the mk1 but can’t hear any difference on the mk2.
Not sure if you got my meaning though about moving between 99 and 100 with variable on the dac. What I find with my pre, for example is that maybe 40 on the pre/99 on the dac is a tad too soft, and 41/99 is a tad too loud, and then I can fine tune that with 40/100 which sounds a baby step in between to me.
Yeah you lost me when you compare 40/99 too soft but fine tune 41/100.
To me at low 90’s the fine tuning with pre is smaller increments. But diff pres yield diff results.
