250 transports only I believe was the number.
Now stated on the PMG Signature 512 DAC product page:
āReceive up to $3,000 when you trade in your Directstream DAC MK2ā
Well I guess I am getting my $250 deposit back.
I wonder if you can market your place in line! There was a price increase, perhaps after your deposit (though PSA said that it would honor the price in your āorderā).
they will honor the 8500 vs 8999 but if they are ONLY giving 3000 for MKII, not going to trade in. I could try and sell mine for 5000 as it has the APS stuff⦠But even I am lucky enough to get that, its still a 3500 uptick on my wallet. And thats a big if on getting 5000 now that they announced 3k.
I really feel this is not that generous as Paul said it would be. They sell for 4000+. so this is just their normal trade in. Not feeling the love here.
I do have some credits from MK1. Which is weird. They gave 3500 + 3500 in credits. for that one. This is way less and my opinion is it should be more as they sold this MKII as upgradable. They basically put it out there, us early adaptors helped drive it to MASSIVE release and then they dump it. Give us more on trade in please.
tariff mess may be introducing caution regarding trade in value
No tariffs on trade in resale. Tariff effects the price of new for sure.
The $3000 offer appears to be across the board, and for specific products:
- PMG Signature 512 DAC - Receive up to $3,000 when you trade in your Directstream DAC MK2
- PMG Signature SACD Transport - Receive up to $3,000 when you trade in your SACD Transport (limited to PST)
- PMG Signature Preamplifier - Receive up to $3,000 when you trade in your BHK Preamplifier
- PMG Signature Phono Preamplifier - Receive up to $3,000 when you trade in your Stellar Phono
33% seems low-ish. Last autumn, it was possible to get 90% when trading in the DSJ for the MKII. 33% does not read āaggressive buy-backā to me. Also, $6K to āupgradeā the PST is ridiculous. Yes, no one is forcing me to switch. Yes, there are people who will gladly pay this. It is beyond me. All of this is beyond me when the Marantz SACD 10 and TAD D1000TX exist.
Knowing this, a Grimm MU2 looks all the more appealing IMHO. Personally not in the PSAudio game, but I too would think the trade-in allowance for a DSD MK II would be on the order of $4500.
Possibly the $3,000 trade-in is merely a place holder until it all gets settled out. What say you Scott McGowan?
Believe me I am thinking about it. What are people paying using Alās connection? My issue is I would replace preamp as I need that cash for the MU2. Which means I no longer have pass through for HT system. I could put inwalls behind screen which I like, but again moā money..
Needless to say I am greatly disappointed. This does not put a smile on my face as promised. Is this just another trend of broken promises? My Dac is only 2 years old and shelling out 6 k for PMG is unrealistic. I hope they (Paul) will reconsider.
The message here is clearā¦.
There are other options.
I understand market forces have significantly changed, as well as the market. I believe the target market is probably shrinking as well.
Those that purchased a Grimm MU2 pre-Tariff are certainly smiling.
I just called PSA. I have 3 options:
- Trade in for yes $3000 - not going to happen
- Use $2250 of my vastly more credit I have. That is the limit for credit usage on the PGM DAC. no idea why its less than trade in.
- Sell my MKII with APS transformers (which sell for $1400 now) for what I guess is about $5000 and do what ever I want.
Group Buy MU2???
Yeah as @jrhodus below says - I guess I could just do nothing⦠but why do I feel thatās not going to happen. Alās bad influence I think.
Itās not happening for me at that price, Iām afraid. Very disappointed. I will have to be happy with what I have for the time being. I have not heard the new PMG Dac so at this point it does not sound better than what I have. Even if I bought the new dac there would always be something that sounds better.
Interesting that a banked credit is further limited in its applicability. Scott M must feel the market is changing.
yeah I thought it was 1:1 with credit and trade in. I think it was when I got the P15 a year ago. But that was a sale and I used credit with it. so who knows. I think they decide for each unit. Margin of profit is probably diff for each thing. they need to make the R&D back on the first few years and live off profit after on new models. So I can see the logic. Dont like it, but see it.
Scott may be pushing PS Audio fanboys away with this new pricing concept. As I mentioned, Iām not in the game, but do find it entertaining.
I guess I could sell my BHK pre , Airlens with a Dragon HDMI and trade or sell the MKII and come in range of the PMG dac⦠maybe or not
Some here would say a Grimm MU2 will get you there, and also allow you to step off the upgrade Merry-Go-Round.
That was my thinking, and I got there with MU2. I have over $10k credit with PSA, and I may never use it (was planning to use it for 600 amp) with the low credit limit now.
Someone here mentioned before for MK1 the trade-in is $3k too. So, what is the great deal for Mk2 owners? I am keeping my PST/MK2 since I am using them only occasionally. I should stop buying SACD so often too because I only listened to all my purchases once on my last 50 SACDs.
