Not sure why this post from 3 months ago shows up in the bottom of this topic however I will answer anyway.
Because we want the best sound we can get out of this already great DAC.
The transformers are the weak point in these as PS Audio has to draw the line somewhere to meet their retail sale price point as do every manufacture.
If you heard the MK2 with the nickel transformers you would know first-hand why. It brings out the sound we all have grown to love with Ted’s Beast.
A little taste of what the TSS might sound like.
It brings the MK2 up to the level of DAC’s costing many times more.
Fortunately Ted fixed all the hardware issues found in the original DS.
This topic is all out of order and impossible to follow now. It wasn’t great before.
It goes in order until yesterday then jumps to Dec 22 then back to this AM.

I am in a time loop where every day is the same as yesterday and tomorrow, more or less. They did warn me about the side-effects of retirement. Even the music I played became similar, except for Qubuz new music list on every Friday. I do not think I will survive without it. I can only play so much golf.
