You’re getting mixed signals, which I think have been straightened out, but in case you’re not sure what you are looking at in a for sale ad, use the below as a guideline. Note the difference in the display …
That is inaccurate. The Jr. has the same FPGA custom code written by Ted. The difference between Jr. and Senior is most in the output stage. The Senior is transformer coupled at the output while the Jr. is not.
I graduated from the DSD DAC Jr to the DSD DAC Mk I (sometimes referred to as Sr). It was a significant improvement, yet the Jr was more than impressive. I enjoyed several upgrades in performance due to newer firmware. In fact, if it wasn’t for an unrepairable failure in a Jr component and a generous trade-up offer from PS Audio, I would likely still be enjoying the Jr with no qualms.
The upgrade uses the infrared sensor of the Perfectwave DAC that was being upgraded. It works as well as the later one that was introduced in the released in the factory assembled Directstream DAC. There is no need for any concern. I still use a PWT that utilizes the original infrared sensor it does not compromise the use of the remote in any way.
I bought a DSD Jr. First. I am listening to it now.
I bought a DSD Sr. Second. It seems nice as well.
Comparing the two carefully my strong preference is for whichever one I am listening to.
They are nice DACs. You can listen endlessly and tirelessly through them. You could stop there. Not me though. I searched on. But I am still listening to my DSD Jr. more than any other DAC. I mean what I say. I really like those two.
