My black FR20s arrived this morning, WITHOUT

Not even 24 hours in and speaker location changed, and added the Gaia feet. Soundstage really opened up.

Very nice… How about pics of the rest ot your system?

Do you have any issues with reflections from the speaker cabinet sides when in video mode?
Also, what are your plans for the HHR speakers?

  1. Yes. When watching a movie in Panavision, the reflections were distracting enough for me to want them gone, but I never was ambitous enough to get two bath towels to hang over the insides of the speakers.

  2. They’re resting quietly in the garage; want to buy them?

Speaker reflections cause blindness and early demise

I’ll give $10

Unless you are referring to the towels

I’ll give $25- each.
Unless you’re talking about the towels

A bidding war

  1. Get big enough towels and you’ll only need to place them once.
  2. If I had the funds and the ambition. I wouldn’t mind upgrading from the TLS1s, but HHRs don’t seem to be easy to sell used and are a pain to ship and to move up/down stairs. I also recently invested most of my spare cash. Maybe you would take a V8 Miata in trade? It is a 1995 with a 6.2 l LS3 crate engine, 405 rwhp, 17 mpg, vinyl wrap being removed a bit at a time: it can be any color desired! Spare funds will go to new paint job. Baked on vinyl is a real pain to remove.
  3. Is there any such thing as a short conversation with Dale [the manufacturer]?

Wow; that is a flat out “Go-Kart”!

What size did you get for your speakers?

They are Gaia 2, originally purchased for my older speakers that weigh 80 pounds. According to Iso-Acoustics the upper limit is supposed to be 120 pounds. With the FR20 weighing 133 pounds i am pushing the limit

133 lbs each? My speakers weigh110# and the isoacoustics guy at Axpona said I’d be better off using the Gaia 1’s instead of the 2’s he said when you get to 80-90% of the weight capacity level up! Not what you want to hear. Call Nick at TMR he will get you a deal! For what it’s worth my speakers are still on the G2’s!

Yikes I was so exhausted from travel I spelled weigh (way)! Good luck with the Gaias!

With the music I’ve been listening to (pretty much everything), I didn’t even notice the typo

The carrier called a day before delivery of my FR-20s. Smooth delivery.

I owned the Magnepan 20.1 and replaced them with the FR-20s. There are a number of confounding factors for a comparison: the new Mk. 2 DAC and Airlens replaced the discontinued PS Audio DAC. This is a huge improvement.

FR-20s are my strong preference. Magnepan had a suck out at 60 hz. The bass on the FR-20s is fantastic, tight, detailed and hits you in the chest. Sound stage on the Magnepan is too tall.

FR-20s are superior on multiple levels IMHO.

Definitely a two person job. I purchased a stair climbing dolly, but what a project to get them down the stairs. I think the packaging is an engineering marvel. They are upside down. You simply disconnect the clamps and pull the box off. The inner container butterflies open. You use a part of the styrofoam package as a fulcrum to stand them upright. Perhaps a problem with a ceiling under 10’ tall.
