the sale guy that i ordered the .7 consult me to take the DMW bass ( two of them), i will try the 0.7 first with placement, room accoustic treatment, then put the Rel T7i in with active cross-over ( will find one later) to cut off the bass from 0.7 and let the Rel handle only.
I can’t disagree.
My .7s (plural ) on Magna Riser MultiRisers. That’s the model that lets you choose from two heights. I think all the other models have only one. I’m using the higher of the two available settings to avoid unintentional boundary reinforcement of the bass by the floor. I may go back to the lower position sometime. After more than 2 years, I’m still experimenting a little.
Always been curious about this technique, and the gear needed to do it
this guy demos the external sub and cut off the bass from Maggies and let the low frequencies handled by the sub via the active cross over
I will try myself later when i have the Maggies, but worth to try, from ebay or Amazon, an active cross-over is vary from $300 - $xxxx
How is the Rel integrate with the Maggies?, your Rel is still class A/B amplified right? I wonder how fast the Rel in sync with Maggies in phase and timing accuracy
I see peoples say the Rel works nice with Maggies but required a little tricks to integrate seamlessly since class A/B may not fast response enough , class D sub amplifier may be a better choice.
yeah, i know that guy. He’s actually from my hometown.
I have the Mye Sound stands for my 3.7i and really like them. Much better than the oval MDF base from the factory which provides very little support.
For sure. Even worse is the acrylic one! it’s just so completely sub-par compared with the quality of the speaker. And I find this old photo, which is still on their website, absolutely hilarious. Looks like something from a memorial service.
I have those on my LRS speakers, and use them on the high setting. That places the middle of the panel at ear level (seated) and helps the bass/low end.
No, The Magnapan still provides two options of stand, the oval base stand will cost hundress more vs the L letter brackets.
In my recent order i have to ask the L letter stand, otherwise i have pay more for the oval base stand
Yep, I mentioned that up there in post # 50
Bass has long frequency waves and reflections of that wave off of solid surfaces in the room return to the listening position far enough out of phase with itself to cancel out the that frequency within the reflection.
Noise cancelling headsets do this deliberately with a small microphone in the headset to take ambient sound, then invert what the mic hears by 180º and playing it through the ear cups along with whatever you’re intentionally listening too. Take a sound, invert it 180º, and play over the original sound and the sound subtracts itself.
Years ago I thought “bass traps?”, why would I want to trap the bass, seems like the opposite of what I want.
Very surprising how 2 24”x48” bass traps for which cost $197 a pair plus shipping added so much content to the room.
Listening to remixed/remastered SACD of Rolling Stones “2000 Light Years from Home”, Charlie Watt’s kick and kettle drum comes straight out of the stereo image center and lifelike with an immediacy and authority and definition previously missing.
GIK’s room drawing tool allows a person to add furniture, room dividers, overall room dimensions, speakers used & their placement, windows & doors, etc. They take this info and comeback with a set of recommendations. In my own case they made 5 recommendations in order of impact with price per recommendation.
I took the first 4 of 5 recommendations which cost a little over $1450. Their recommendations and suggested sonic impact was spot on.
I did visit their website and was going to submit a “help” request. I had it most of the way filled out when I realized you could send them a sketch of your room using their tool. I thought a sketch and some pictures of the room would be worth a thousand words.
For what I’ve sent on equipment, $200 or even $2000 would be worth it. I spend most of my evenings in the basement listening to music and reading. I’m not much on TV. Thanks for the suggestion. I’ll let you know how it goes.
I don’t have a REL, so I can’t say, other than I’ve read numerous positive comments from owners. My sub is a 15-year-old Hsu, with a 250 watt amp that’s a hybrid of A/B and D. I’m very happy with it, but I have to admit I haven’t heard any other sub in this system, so I don’t have anything to compare it to. I’m sure it could be bettered in any number of ways, but when I listen, I’m not hearing any obvious deficiencies, and certainly none that I’m willing to throw money at.
My brother got Myes for his 20.7s, and they’re really nice.
Congrats OP on the Maggie purchase. Hope you like them. Give a comparison to the MA’s when you receive them.
I have to agree, the black stands that came with my Magnepans were ugly! As soon as I ordered them, I called Magnepan and asked if they’d be kind enough to sent me the drawing for the oval base. I was told they really shouldn’t. I countered with, that’s fine, but I’m going to reverse engineer them and make them anyway. I’d sure like to have my new cherry bases complete by the time my speakers arrived. They agreed to send the plans if I promised to send them pictures of the completed stands. I doubt if they sound any better than the stock stands but they sure look a lot better. I also can’t raise my speakers any higher than they are. There’s a wood covered I-beam right above my left speaker. I might have an inch clearance. That’s why 20.7s are out for me as well. They just won’t fit in the room.
Looks like you did a great job with those, especially in color-matching. I know how prone cherry can be to blotching when you try to do anything other than a straight transparent finish.
Before I listened to Mom and got an education I served a full apprenticeship to become a journeyman carpenter. I still enjoy doing it, just don’t want to do it for a living anymore. I’m fortunate. There’s a mom and pop sawmill about 6 miles from the house. I visited him to get the material for the 3.7is, hoping he’d have something full width. He did. I paid something like $50 for the 48"" x 16" x 1 1/4" board the stand came from. I couldn’t believe he sold it to me for that reasonable an amount. The material the DWM stands came from what out of his “short” bin. He throws pieces under 2’ long in that. He charges about $4 a board foot for that. I’ve made many a jewelry box for nieces from the bin.
