I have my eye open for one. I’d like to try one. Can’t hurt having an extra preamp around anyhow. LOL
The dual XLR could work for running a pair of maggie bass panels off a pair of Stellar monos
I’m pretty sure that Upscale Audio has a used one with a warranty.
They have one used yes. Traded in for a Primaluna preamp per the site. That almost sounds like going backwards a tad??
Whenever he has a used amp or preamp, he’ll says it’s traded on a PrimaLuna–he’s their distributor.
Got it… Good to know
Lol that guy comes across like a shady used car salesman in his videos. They are basically just adverts for what he is selling but he calls them “reviews”.
An old Mahatma once told me, Life pays big dividends when one approaches it without expectation, which is exactly how i felt last night pressing the standby/on PS audio button on the front of my new BHK Signature Preamp. Months of reviews and threads can “color” a visualization if one is not prepared to empty the mind and just listen. First, truly, this preamp is a thing of beauty to gaze upon, the warm glow from within, and the tactile pleasure of the volume control just set the “wow” factor in motion. Much has been written and overstated about volume clicks and shiffs, i found this to be a NON-Issue. Playing DSF/Flac thru DSD>BHK-Pre>M700s>B&Ws, balanced AnalysisPlus SoloCrystals and running the RCA out to an old ThetaCasablanca/BEL1001 powering Linn in-ceiling speakers simultaneously, the first few moments were another level up in “wow” factor. Superlatives aside, first impression is the “coherency”, once volume levels were balanced, it is immediately apparent the Preamp is in control, accurately balanced signals emerging from both front ends was not only enlarging the sound stage but projecting a coherent, organized, robust, articulate, detail retrieval I have not heard before. But, it seems the real magic here is the emotional transference… which is where words become inadequate. I really just want to thank Bascom, if someone there gets the chance, please do, this piece of gear is really a beautiful testament to the man’s technical prowess and to the PSA Team. Quite an accomplishment. Thank you, Al petrie
I just ordered a NOS Aesthetix Janis to try. Should have it on Thursday next week. Anyone have any thoughts on it?
That’s a BRILLIANT piece of kit. They’re a tiny company, building great quality products.
I am running a BHK pre now…so I was curious… Nice to have a built in Phono stage since I am only 15% LP spinner
I can’t imagine you won’t like it. But let us know.
Really??! Why??
To be honest. I feel the BHK is noisy. I get a ton of hiss and noise changes at ideal. No matter the tubes or cables I use. All my gear is powered from a P20. Turn off the pre…no noise.
It’s been this way since day 1. been back to PSA twice. They even swapped the main board on it’s last visit
Opps sorry, misread the post
I had a Calypso for years and it was great.
Now, in my main system, amp and pre are Pass Labs and they are dead silent; fantastic quality.
My second system has a BHK pre and it’s not noisy at all.
Are your speakers highly efficient, say 95dBs/1m/1watt?
Can’t have enough of that. That’s really what I was hoping the BHK preamp would help bring more of to the table. Looking forward to acquiring one of these beauties one day.
93 db Def Tech Mythos ST-L. Wanting for replacement Magnepan 3.7i 's to arrive. st pair arrive this week with shipping damage, refused shipment.
I have the same issue, my speakers are 95dB, and I get the hiss too. It’s worse with 6/7 volt tubes. I’m running the new Telefunken 12au7 now, it’s the quietest and best sounding tube for this issue I’ve come across. Paul said they know about the issue, and that is just how it goes! My speakers were $30k, and just bought them last year. I wish I could get the incredible sound without the annoying hiss!
Sorry to hear about your damaged delivery! Not the worst sort of problem to have though!
