New product tests at ASR has them very excited

:stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes::joy: …Yeah

It’s interesting how to avoid generating more attention than necessary for destructive obsessions of people with publicity (or how to let them embarrass themselves in their own community).

We just have to look at the political stage. The most embarrassing, criminal or selfish leaders in the world could even kill the children of their voters and they would still support them.

Just the same as the ASR people can tell what they want, their crowd supports them for discrediting the one or other established company if just for entertainment purpose. Whole newspapers or parties work like that and we all recognize the success of such strategy.

Even a conjoined ignoring statement of all (even the well reviewed) manufacturers wouldn’t defeat the hunger of the followers.

The only thing that comes into my mind how to find peace is one single very short published statement regarding this matter and then shrugging off the whole topic with referring to the one statement for the rest of the time and continue with the meaningful part of life.

I have to wonder how many of the speakers that he tests will have tweeter hiss?

Ooooohhhh cool! Please people update us when he does this! I’d love to see how he measures speakers and then destroy his methodology.

Methodology & first test is up on ASR.

He badmouths everything but Topping.

I like it here because nobody badmouths anything by company. People warn that “well I don’t think product-X sounds good” but there’s no “Schiit makes schiit” crusade. I’ve been pleased, nay, thrilled with all the Schiit gear I have, but that would get me mocked there. Oh well.

To each their own. If taking down companies is what excites you, then you are a sad, strange little man, and you have my pity.

A little bit of dynamite in the wrong hands can do a lot of collateral damage. It’s really sad that people like that have such a cult following that cant make up their own minds without supremely loud leadership. Cult? Yeah that’s it.

Ugh, so he threw up an endless amount of measurements and now he’s an expert. I really have zero interest in wasting my time breaking it all down so I’ll just mention a few very obvious things.

In no particular order:

  1. He never mentions what kind of smoothing he used. You can take the sh1tt1est speaker and smooth the response so it looks awesome.
  2. There is an approximately 3db peak @ about 1,800Hz. That’s going to be both obvious and fatiguing.
  3. The frequency response is within 5-6db. That’s not exactly great. Just average.
  4. There is no discussion of imaging and staging…oh yeah, because you can’t measure those!
  5. No discussion of transient response, attack, decay.
  6. What is his reference speaker that he’s judging these against to decide if they are good or not?

I can add a bunch more comments but have lost interest. ASR is moronic.

Based on my previous sampling of the head honcho’s content and, especially, the majority of the comments that follow the posting of his reviews, I tend to agree.

So, a question for you and other denizens of the PSA fora, why do we lend credence and “views” traffic to ASR’s benefit by posting about ASR here?

Folks are free to seek knowledge and, more importantly, wisdom where and how they want. That said, it is my opinion that bashing ASR here is unproductive and beneficial to ASR at best, and somewhat hypocritical at worst.

@Jedi: Your post brought these thoughts to the forefront for me – no offense or personal criticism intended. From here on out, I intend to heed my own advice and try to limit related posts.

“And now, back to your regularly scheduled programming.”

It’s all good I don’t get bent out of shape.

Why does ASR get mentioned? :man_shrugging: Natural human response to something we’re interested in (audio)?

I understand. Relatedly, I have a very low “Troll” threshold and sometimes I think PSA forum members/posters do get trolled, especially when it comes to ASR.

Have a good weekend.

Potty mouth.

I’ve had a few Schiit products and found no real fault with them, but there’s always that “What am I missing?” feeling in the back of your mind in this hobby, especially when you’re restarting from being away from it so long, as I have. So you spend more money, do what you think is an upgrade, and stop (if you have any sense) when your “upgrades” are not sounding any better, just different. I upgraded my DAC and phono stage from Schiit to PS Audio GCD and Pro-ject and thought I noticed a better sound, so that was good for me. I just bought a new Topping DAC while my GCD is out for repairs (coming back in lightning time, I must add), so again I’ll be asking myself if I notice an improvement in performance - otherwise, it gets sold.

Re ASR: “Not everything that counts can be counted, and not everything that can be counted counts.”

Often attributed to Albert Einstein but probably coined by William Bruce Cameron. Sometimes reworded as “Not everything that matters can be measured and not everything that can be measured matters.”

Because no one can turn their eyes away from a train wreck.

I have a calibrated microphone - can I start a cult?

You need to have some pink panther figures too, beheaded, proudly standing and comfortably laying on a side smoking cigars, and maybe a few other models to put on top of tested gear and then you are a cult leader ! Just remember…no listening involved ! :muscle::joy:

I think that Amir has good test gear, and his results are well and consistently presented. His methodology may on occasion be suspect, and I am very cautious about his conclusions. So you should trust the measurements but be very careful about any inferences drawn from them.

Anyone bought a suit online based on measurements alone?

There is one issue that separates ASR from everyone else: ASR people believe everything can be measured. I and presumably most people here think otherwise. Especially speakers.

So if you meet a guy walking around New York in a badly fitting suit, give Amir my regards.

How about it fits great but is the ugliest puke green you’ve ever seen?
