New PSA Active Speakers?

I read or heard that PSA are building active speakers. As an owner of active ATC speakers I’ll be interested in what direction PSA goes. I will say what I really like about ATC is that they are all Analog. No DSP or digital power amps. Class A/B Tri-Amps, analog crossover. It’ll be interesting to see what PSA comes up with.

I reckon it’ll have all the DSP options that Chris can throw at it.

That’s what people need if they want to heavily use room treatment.

I wondered too if this is the lifestyle speaker Paul mentioned in another video. Time will tell…

It’s still early days on this so, not much to report. The we are currently evaluating a powerDAC amp architecture that has some unique benefits for active speakers, both for performance and system simplicity - high power and higher efficiency, load independent bandwidth, very wide range feedback because of a digital feedback look and a feedforward architecture based on the output stage characteristics.

That, plus a powerful DSP and some great wireless features and the low distortion, long-throw driver architecture we’ve been working on should offer something compelling.

I was surprised to hear how cheap DSP chips can be bought now. Having no real understanding of them or DSP, I was wondering what makes a for a powerful or good DSP? I’d guess there are different chips with different capabilities, however, I have to imagine software is a major factor. Would you be willing to expand on what makes for a powerful DSP? As a designer, what are you looking for and what drives you to go one direction over another when it comes to DSP?
