For those of us who want some guidance in pairing an FR30 or FR20 with REL subs, unfortunately, neither of the two speakers are on REL’s long sub/speaker pairing list?
Considering both sets have been out for quite some time, I would have expected them to be there with the FR10 following soon.
Paul often mentions and practically advocates REL subs on his videos (free advertising) and apparently, John Hunter (Owner and Lead Designer at REL), is also a friend of his.
Yes, the Aspen series is a young speaker line as compared to most of the other brands on the REL sub/speaker pairing list, but one would still think there would be a bit more of a symbiotic relationship with all things considered.
Hope the team at PS Audio can point this out to John and his team at REL for future reference… Soon!
What I prefer with REL subs is their multiple connection options. The high level inputs, which connect to either the positive output terminal on an amp only, or both positive and negative. I have differential amplifiers so I just connect the positive lead.
This input is very musical and rewards expensive cable purchases. (Sadly)
But for home theater you have to use the sub input, which sounds nice as well. REL subs just sound better to me. They are the number one choice with my Audiophile friends.
Thank you very much for your comments on this matter. I will treasure it.
I almost forgot:
Have you ever listened to Paradigm’s Reference Signature series?
I wanted to understand how it might fit into the REL.
I have read in the past that, considering that time with the products of the time, Paradigm (at least the flagship series) beat the RELs in all aspects.
Also in those times, I made a direct comparison of the JL Audio Fathom f113 with the SUB25 and I preferred mine.
Let’s not forget that the Paradigm has a 3,000-watt amplifier with a peak of 7,500 watts.
It can go down - naturally with very low sound pressures - up to 9hz!.
What I am about to say may seem blasphemous to many, but I have also heard very good things about Arendal products, especially for people like me who live in Europe.
Let’s say that for the price of 1 REL, sorry again for what I’m writing, I could buy four (4 )Arendal 1723 SUBWOOFER 2S and calibrate them to perfection with the Dirac Bass Control Multi SUB.
Of course, take this as a possible alternative, I’m not saying that Arendal can compete with a REL No. 32, although I would like to be able to do blind A/B comparisons in my environment…
With my evaluation, I did not want to disrespect anyone and if it seemed that way I apologize to all of you for what happened.
Simply for my environment, I could define it as a tavern tending towards modern (due to the inclusion of an AV system), I don’t see a product that is too Spartan, perhaps not lacquered, suitable.
That’s all.
If it had been lucid and captivating I would have considered it.
You see, already with the M&K Sound there is a subtle harmony of shapes, even if it is not lacquered.
