I believe PS Audio is working on a subwoofer and the Aspens are great sounding speakers! I’ve had the pleasure of listening to the FR30’s and the FR20’s locally thanks to @straightwire and @adifferentpaul. Not sure how close PS is with their sub and I know Joe at Martin Logan is also working on a subwoofer. I’m sticking with Rel either way. That’s all they do is subwoofers and they do them very well. By far the best integrated subwoofer for 2 channel IMO and no slouch with home theater also.
I have the matching in-wall speaker to the PL500’s that’s used as a center channel. I’ve never used it but it’s the most substantial inwall speaker I’ve seen. It weighs around 70lbs.
From the article I think you summarized it accurately as it creates a fine opportunity for some one to pick up the REL No. 25 on the used market for a reduced price. Something to consider.
Lately the price is $5k each for a number 25. I think I could get a No. 31 for $5500 new. If you are lucky you may find a 25 for $4k if you see one for less jump on it!
Beautiful, it is even finely lacquered.
When they say that past products were the best, they are simply telling the truth.
Thanks for sharing these great photos with us.
Until we sort out ou rfuture accomodations a woofer/subwoofer isn’t in the cards. I appreciate the thought though, especially the No. 31 at the price you mentioned.
Are any of you REL fans using one of their wireless systems to connect the sub to an amp? If so, is there any drop-off compared to a hard-wired amp-to-sub connection?
an enthusiast, I think there are many on this forum, who could sell their car to buy a solid silver cable to improve the performance of their speakers/amplifiers, I don’t think would appreciate this technology.
Talking about wireless ethereal connections, I believe, is equivalent to blaspheming in St. Peter’s Cathedral (Vatican City) during Christmas mass and in the presence of the Pope.
I hope I have conveyed the idea.
Valerio-Mac, I’m not surprised that there would be questions about whether using a wireless subwoofer connection would be a good idea - that’s why I asked the question in the first place. I wondered, too, whether having greater freedom in sub placement (using a wireless system compared to the constraints of a wired system) might be worth the trade-off.
I liked your reference to Christmas mass at St. Peters, given that I was lucky enough to have that experience way back in the 1970s. It was a beautiful service, though with a different pope presiding at the time.
