I recently got a DSD Mk. 1. I also bought the Audiophile Masters Volume 11 from Octave records and have it downloaded on my Mac as DSF files. However, when I play the files using Pine, the DSD screen still says “PCM”. I also got the Colibri DSD test app, and when I select one of the DSF files and DoP or DoPA all I get is hissing sound from it. However, if I switch to “PCM” the file plays fine.
Note that I don’t actually think this is an issue with the DSD; this is in fact the exact same behavior I saw with my SMSL VMV D2R, which claims to be able to play DSD files. I suspect it’s something to do with my Mac, but I’m not sure what it could be. Note that in both cases the Mac was plugged directly into the Dac via USB with no other device between. I thought maybe someone here among the DSD affectionados might know what’s going on and what I could do about it. Thanks!
