IMHO, PST already has LAN/wifi build in, but for over-the-air firmware update. (Although, PST can be FW update via traditional USB key.)
PST and octave streamer look just like an identical twin.
So, swap the disk mechanism drive, replace by a 1TB SSD, configure the FPGA and load the streamer software , vola, you have a Octave streamer. I believe the tough part is to make the FPGA code and streamer software work bug-free.
You have MPD (Music Player Daemon) software loaded in Brystonās Manic Moose factory firmware. You utilize it with attached music files and TIDAL/QOBUZ. In order to change to MPD, you access the SERVICES tab. If you check the MPD box, it will automatically uncheck Roon. Iām selected to the DLNA options at the moment with JRiver. Itās farther down the services tab. Current firmware version is S2.44 12-01-2020.
Thank you for the info. !
Any chance the streamers will incorporate upsampling? Iām hearing major increase in SQ with Strata with Audirvana Studio and the newly incorporated R8 brain upsampling.
Sorry but the password instructions clearly state that passwords should have 12 characters - not to mention several other requirements for numbers capitals and symbols.
Odd.
The forum by itself does not require this.
Recently, a local store āAudio Excellence Canadaā ran an interview with Paul on their Youtube channel. At about the 1:00:00 point they discussed future products.
Paul said that two Octave products would be release. A Octave/Roon endpoint and later in 2021 or 2020 an Octave Server.
I am interested in replacing my Bridge II card with a best Roon endpoint. Under consideration is the Auralic Aries G2.1. But there is no local dealer in my area. I am very interested in the Octave/Roon endpoint as a replacement for my Bridge II card.
Does anyone have more information on this product. Will it have an I2S connection for the DirectStream DAC? Will it have a summer or fall 2020 release?
Joe C
Any idea of the price list ? Someone let me know it would be a completely different steamer and much much more expensive.
I still think that when the DS MKII is out, many members will consider it was worth waiting.
Will there be an equipment that will allow to read music from a inside HDD or a SSD such as the Aurender N20 (no need for PS-Audio to look at th price : not an exemple to follow ) ?
My understanding is that the streamer will be $1500-$2000, It will have a USB port that will allow connection of a USB or you can use a NAS over the Ethernet. @jamesh please verify that i am talking truth here
The info I was given more than three years ago (things might have changed)
āWe are likely going to release a Bridge III at some point, likely at the beginning of next year. The Bridge III will actually be a server rather than just an endpoint like the Bridge II. So with the Bridge III it will act as your server and communicate with NAS storage and our own Octave software will run the whole system including an app for a tablet. And since we are developing this product it will likely not have the restrictions with the larger file formats like the Bridge II. Currently if you try to play a file larger than the Bridge II can support it simply wonāt play, and you would need to use a music management software like Roon or JRiver to downconvert those files prior to sending them to the Bridge.ā I expected a higher price as it as in another post described as a very sophisticated computer dedicated to music. Good news. @jamesh please verify that i am talking truth here
Still donāt know if there will be an equipment with and internal disc to read downloaded music. Having to plug an external disc or a drive is not what I like the best and an extra connexion downgrades sound most of the time. It was right 3 years ago but now SSD are available up to 8 To
That is all correct. It will also have I2S out to mate beautifully with our DACs.
Iām jealous :youāve answered to @magicknow (and his great news) but not mine
I still donāt know if there will be an equipment with and internal disc to read downloaded music. Downloaded music is increasing and allows higher resolution. If people can play them, something is missing.
Will it be roon ready ? A least for marketing : Iām not a big fan of roon but I know many people who consider only roon ready (or tested) streamers. They donāt even look at the others.
With the drive and the streamer, we have no HMDI I2S left on our DAC
@jamesh @Paul Obviously, all staff of PS-AUDIO no longer answer me. Not on threads, not on PMs, not on client service.
If this is right, just let me know and Iāll leave this forum. No problem at all.
Iām stuck to āBasicā, there must be good reasons but I canāt find them. May be @Elk can let me know what Iāve missed and am lacking
Not to be argumentative but, may I suggest emailing either or both directly? Iād like to think the results will be to your satisfaction. Publicly complaining is hardly an effective motivator IMO. Possibly @Elk can provide you with their email info.
Wishing you the best in your pursuit of a meaningful solution.
@Elk @Paul @jamesh, TJT (I think Iāve bought AC-12, I just want to be sure, I canāt even have it checked - of course I donāt want any replacement) canāt provide their email info as they donāt answer my mails. Furthermore as other members of the staff donāt read my mails, Iāll never get the answer.
He hasnāt answered my question on my previous post.
He is free.
If publicly complaining is not aneffective motivator after individual one has failed where is freedom ?
Iām no longer considered as a PS-Audio client.
So they just make thing clear (they can answer me by pm and then destroy those posts) and I buy the holo KTE DAC.
And be happy if I leave, I would have opened another jazz thread (a different one).
Paul does not get PMs. if you want to contact him directly his address is Paul@psaudio.com.
Jamesā email is Jamesh@psaudio.com.
As for your questions as to Octave I see you asked:
Will there be onboard storage for music files?
Will it be Roon ready?
Is there anything else/something I missed?
Someone should be along within a day or two with answers, or at least their best prediction. My understanding is the products remain in flux.
@jack_nessuno:
Regarding the Strictly Jazz Sounds thread you are free to post anything you care to that you feel fits the genre jazz. No one is preventing or blocking posts to that thread. As well you are free to start any thread you may choose as long as it is within the Forumās posting guidleines.
I initiated the thread as a means to introduce those to my concept of jazz with a bias to living and breathing participants. My taste tends to forms that challenge the generally accepted notion of jazz. As well my intent was and continues to be to introduce forms and artists that a typical āAudiophileā may not be exposed to. My choice, my taste, my initiative.
Here is a link to the thread intro establishing the basis for creating it in the first place. Jelly Roll Morton, Fats Waller, Art Tatum and Erroll Garner have their place within the thread as does Jim Baker, Peter Brotzmann and Vijay Iyer. To my way of thinking keeping jazz alive implies constant change, evolution, and a strong element of experimentation. As such efforts are not always well understood nor successful. That is part of the enjoyment of exploring music, be it jazz or otherwise. I do look forward to you sharing you jazz preferences on Strictly Jazz Sounds.
Regarding Octave Music Iād welcome their releasing jazz that is a little more forward thinking. Hint, Hugh Ragin, Bill Frisell and Ron Miles are each in the Denver Colorado area. Of course it is not my dime.
Paul does not get PMs ? So why is it possible to send him ?
Not exactly : my uestion is will there be a product with onboard storage with music files. It can be the Octave, the future DAC or any of the future products (I think Mr. Paul McGowan announced āother poductsā to be released before the Octave and the DAC).
Itās "will it be Roon ready or Roon certified.
There is another issue, Iād need the adresses of all the staff in charge of the forum to ask the same question. It seems itās more convenient
I forgot, will there be one version or more (eg.one streamer, another streamer/ server). If so, how much more would cost the āhigher versionā ? thanx
