Having difficulty finding original Sony KES 480 optical pickup. Ebay seems to have a lot of these being sold as new that only work for a few months, then have to be replaced.
Dalbani Golbal in Florida claims to be sourcing these directly from the manufacturer in China KES-480A Sony Original Laser Lens | eBay but I’m skeptical.
I’ve read that the photodiode array (optical sensor) is usually the failed component. Does anyone know where that part can be purchased?
Any tips?
Btw, these appear to be currently manufactured by Shenzhen Sansing in China. Sony Kes-480A DVD Laser Pick-up Mechanism - Kes-480A and Pick up Mechanism. Ordering direct from Shenzhen, there is a 500 unit minimum.
I ordered one of these from Amazon and noticed tracking shows it is shipping from Shenzhen. Amazon.com
Not a guarantee it’s a new item form the Shenzhen Sansing factory, but it seems probable. If it works with no issues at all every time I load a disk I’ll post back here.
