Reverse what I said about about the R going to end cap…
I checked and it is the otherway around S to the cap side…

I haven’t bought the fuses yet so no worries and thanks for the help. One of the wife’s wishes when I finished the basement is that she not be able to see the cables. I couldn’t hide the speaker cables but everything else is in a custom oak cabinet. The P12 is doing the same thing you describe the fuses doing. I don’t have many hours on it yet and the system, which was well run in prior to it’s addition, is having bouts of sounding thin and tinny. I still have three weeks to decide if I’ll keep it but I’m sure I will. When she askes what I want for Christmas and my birthday I’ll know what to tell her.
By the way, has anyone who reads this tried replacing the fuses on their magnepans with the orange fuses? If so, I’d like to hear what you thought. I’ve read where people replace the fuses with solid silver bars and say that’s great but I’m just not that gutsy. That little fuse is all that stands between the amps and the ribbon tweeter.
Your P12 shouldn’t take long to settle in…if possible put
a highly dynamic track on repeat mode…let it play 24/7 …
Doesn’t have to be loud…I use The Best of Chesky Jazz cd
track # 38 Equipment and Cable Burn In , on repeat…
On P12 probably a week if that much…and you will be a happy
camper…
If cables are also new then depending on the cables, may take
longer…
End result
I didn’t really think about it but the power cable feeding the P12 is new. I’m thinking Flim and the BBs, Tricycle should be plenty dynamic.
Yes indeed Tiycycle the jump factor transient…Rockeby Garden
or Time Warp: Ascent for Synthesizer
That’ll get it!!
Which power cable did you get?
I’m using a Pangea AC 9SE MkII. I use the same on the M1200s and use AC 14SE MkIIs on all my source components.
David you made a good choice with the Pangeas …they don’t take long at all to burn in…you will have great performance from these…
super great value/ price point…
In my system they allow my system to be lively smooth great
soundstage in all respects highly detailed…depending of course
on your particular equipment ymmv…
Happy trails friend…
Oh…and btw run clean wave while equipment is on but not playing
music…press the clean wave button then again a 2nd time to
get a full 60 seconds of clean wave action…in my system it
freshens the quickness of my system’s response…
How’s it going? P12 and Cable burn in?
Should be sweetening up about now…
Keep us posted…
Thanks Davidnapo
It is burning in nicely. It’s not wandering off and going through spells of sounding thin nearly as often now. But there’s much more that it’s allowing the other components to uncover now.
I was listening to Different Light, The Burdon of Paradise. There are many cases where the bass player and the drummer are perfectly synchronized but they sounded as one sound before. Now you can clearly hear the impact of the drum and the pluck of the bass guitar string at the same time. I am also able to hear the various treatments or effects the players are adding to their guitars and keyboards. The micro detailing coming out is amazing. That it’s doing so with out adding fatigue is all the more amazing.
Next I put on America’s debut album. I love the track Here but there’s considerably more guitar play going on between the vocals than I’ve heard before. It’s now quite easy for follow the multiple acoustic guitars, playing together in the solo.
Next I pulled out James Taylor, Dad Loves His Work. London Town, toward the end of the disc, is a fairly quiet affair until the end when they seem to pull out the stops. I’d never heard the harmonica before in that passage. I also noticed the dynamics on this disc are more than I recall. In fact, that’s becoming a generalization. The music is much more dynamic, even on older recordings. Dad Love’s His Work is nearly 40 years old.
Before the first time I heard John Denver’s, Perhaps Love, if you’d have told me you were pairing John Denver and Placido Domingo for a duet, I’d have looked at you with eye brow’s raise and probably made a smart remark like, “Why?” Two very different vocalists but they just work well together on that song. That one will send physical shivers up my back when played on a good system. I wasn’t disappointed. There’s a bridge in the song with a lot of strings and that was oh, so smooth.
Next I put on The Neal Morse Band, The Similitude of a Dream. I just love the track, Ways of a Fool. I believe all five of the players sing, if not lead, at least back up and harmony. It’s very easy to pick the voice apart from one another when they’re singing together. As a side note, anyone who says Magnepans don’t make bass need to come sit in my basement.
When the 3.7is came home I was using an Adcom GFA 555. Then I got the DWM bass panels. Next came the M700s which were traded on the M1200s and finally the P12 was added. More important than the quantity of the bass is the quality of the bass. And that’s true across the board.
If I were to try to sum up my experience with the P12, first, I’d have to admit to being highly skeptical. But the reviews on this site and from the Pros said once you’d heard your system on regenerated power, you’d never go back. I had 30 days risk free so nothing to lose really. The other thing that was a strong influence on my decision to buy was my past experience with PS Audio products. Everything I’ve bought from them so far has produced far greater improvements for the dollar than I thought possible.
I am hearing a much quieter, blacker back ground than before. Micro details are out there in all their glory but without adding fatigue. Bass is better, imaging, soundstage, everything, is just plain better. There’s also a sense of ease in the sound now that would difficult to put into words. It’s something that has to be experienced to be appreciated.
I also have to say that setting the thing up and programing the outlets was pretty intuitive. I haven’t figured out how to rename the outlets yet but I haven’t tried all that hard either. I haven’t played with all the features yet. I haven’t used the multi wave, phase tuning or clean wave yet. I think it’s safe to say that until the unit burned in and I was familiar with the basic sound of the unit, other changes would just add confusion. How do you know whether something sounds different when inserting the P12 did make things sound different and better. That was the point, right?
OK, enough. I’ll admit to playing the tracks, stopping, recording my impressions, and going onto the next track. Now, I just want to go sit and listen, maybe read a book although that’s gotten harder to do with every improvement I’ve made. I’ll attempt to read but the next thing I know the book’s in my lap and I’m just listening. If you’re on the fence over one of these, now is a very good time to make the plunge. I said after the M700s, the M1200s, and here I’ll say it again. I didn’t think it would be possible to make the system sound any better and I couldn’t have been more wrong in each case. Anyone suggesting future improvements will need to take it up with my wife. She’s been extremely tolerant so far. I’m going to wait until she starts asking what I want for Christmas and my birthday before pushing my luck. A little long winded but I’m done now.
Happy listening,
David
Great review David…you are an excellent patient reviewer and writer…
Thank you for taking the time to share your story…
No you were not long winded at all. It takes words to express
and illustrate the complexities and textures and dynamics
you are now experiencing…
Often times I thought about sharing on the the Octave Recording of
Don Gruisin…and have to put down my laptop and say forget that, I just
want to listen …maybe another day perhaps…
Indeed is a such an amazing thing to hear the differences and imorovements
with and without your new P12 power regenerator…The delicate never heard that
before details even instruments you never knew were even in the recording at all
are now appearing out thin air from a completely quiet background!!!
You have illustrated in a more wonderful way than I ever could…
the experience I had with my P12 and now again with my Power Play
promo special P15…
Serhan, if per chance you come across this David’s review…hold on
this is exctly what is awaiting you when your P15 arrives and settles in!!
Best wishes
Happy trails!!
Oh btw…clean wave is kinda of like washing your dinner plates
after dinner…or your coffee mug…!!
One other thing I’ll say, now that I’m just listening, not forcing myself to try to hear something, it’s easier to hear differences. I should put a pad of paper and a pen next to my chair in the music room to jot down notes for a follow up. A collection of spur of the moment observations would probably be useful to some who read the forum.
