@straightwire - the first thing I did when going 20A single run to get the maximum capacity (15A [1200VA] to 20A single run [2000VA]) from my P20 was to research what duplex manufactured can handle #8 gauge and found none. The max I found was #10ga unless pigtailed as @amsco15 pointed out . I would have run #8ga from panel to duplex (65ft) if there was a duplex that could handle #8ga wire. Not sayin there is none in the universe, just sayin after a week of researching, found none.
Right but this doesnât change how much load is placed on the output
percentage of either 1200VA or 2000VA.
Load is the same; %load calculated is based on 2000VA, not 1200VA⌠in addition, you canât go over 1200VA w/ 15A plug. Manual is very clear about consequences. So his P20 load calculated by P20 dropped 52%; 1200VA to 2000VA is 60%⌠so calculation seems about right by P20.
oui.
Hey Ron, Please clarify the term âcapacityâ. I read my P20 manual and I could not find a reference.
Thanks Chas
@1cdfoley - Chas, I believe @RonP meant capability wrt the %load. When he was using 15A plug with window slid over his system was 51% of the P20 capability (1200VA). When he went 20A single run, his system is now 27% of what it is capable (2000VA) of delivering.
Make sense?
In your manual, the paragraph entitled âDual Power Inputsâ explains what Richard (@cardri) explained above. It shows your P20âs âcapacityâ with a 15 amp service or a 20 amp service.
Thank you Richard and Ron. While I sometimes struggle with measurements and terms, I know for certain the SQ improve well beyond my expectations and music seems to be produced with an âeaseâ. I am so glad that I bought the P20.
Chas
@1cdfoley - all good, glad to help⌠I will give up my P20 when they pry it from my cold dead hands⌠love the P20âŚ
Got it, thanks guys. Load didnât change but the calculation did (taking in account increase capacity of supply)
Yes, thanks for the wire gauge correction. Receptacles canât easily accept 8 but 10ga
will work. I have Shunyata receptacles rated for 20 amp they say, and I should be good
to go.
@straightwire - yeah - I used SR BLUE duplex for each 20A single run to music room and A/V room. Maximum wire gauge is #10ga.for each duplex. Thought of pigtail and decided #10 ga run should be good enough. I used a duplex because my P20 load is ~5A and ~2.5A for my DR Acoustic Silver Fire distribution box feeding my (4) Farad LPS(s) to my AQVOX-SE, Giga FOIL filter, Matrix, and Nucleus+. If your P20 load requires full 2000VA, manual indicates only one receptacle, not duplex. My full loading is <8A steady (non dynamic), allowing plenty of head room from a sourced continuous 20A single feed circuit.
You are a Power God. My inquiry is how you create a dedicated line that
routes without getting the grunge of a breaker that shares power in the main panel.
I assume it is simply a sub panel that pulls power separate from the
main panel.
OopsâŚdidnât do my homework and read previous input on dedicated power
line configuration. Looks straight forward.
My recent post (see below) may be of interest to P20 owners; I swapped the Audience Au24 SX AC power cord with the Shunyata Sigma NR to hear the differences:
