Packaging rant

Reminds me of the packaging Shunyata has been using recently. I’ve gotten their interconnects and power cords (excluding the cheap venoms) in an elaborate zippered hard shell case. That winds up in a land fill because I have no further use for it. The irony is my venom PCs were packaged in a simple plastic bag. Leads me to think dollar for dollar I’m getting more product with the cheapskate venoms. Hmmmm.

I suppose it is more difficult to keep wood on the ecological and personal level as we age it declines.

Is that why folks knock on their heads of wood?

My (highly appreciated;-) Crystal Cables came like jewels in a black satin bag inside a glossy finished hard cardboard box.
Simple and cost effective, easy peasy as these are thin and flexible…

how about the purple “Crown Royalesque” bag the RAL hdmi comes in? I’d give up the bag for 5 bucks off.

This all reminds me of a date I had years ago. Lots of fancy packaging, but subpar performance. At least she had all the “right” connections. And no, she was not anybody’s wife.

There may be a lot to what you are saying…

Most of my insanely expensive Stealth Audio Interconnects and power cables arrived in one cardboard box, each in individual bubble wrap, and no anything else. I will admit that it was a let down. I imagined they would arrive protected by an alien stasis field that only opened when the proper incantation was recited perfectly, forward and backward.

Bubble wrap, please.

My son’s first job in London was designing packaging for the US market for a major telecoms brand. It seems to me that packaging has its basic practical function, but is central to brand image because it is usually the first thing the customer sees - especially if it is your new mobile phone or laptop - solid and dependable, fancy schmansy, no expense spared, utilitarian, purity, industrial. I reckon if you don’t like the packaging you’re not reading the brand image correctly. My wife used to manufacture in China and some packaging that looks expensive is extremely cheap to make, but I’ve been told by speaker manufacturers that their basic looking cardboard boxes are very expensive because they have to be extremely strong and impervious to sharp objects. The density of the board also makes them heavier and more expensive to ship, but it is unavoidable.
