You can have mine for 120% list price tomorrow.
Wait, I do not want to find another one. Never mind!
Maybe I missed it if it was mentioned here, but does anyone know what the maximum size USB stick is we can use with this transport?
Simple and Old like 32mb USB worked on MK2, and I have been using it since. I do not know if PMG will take a newer USB with larger storage.
I seemed to remember 64mb also worked but not 128mb on MK2.
Does anybody know what transport mechanism is being used by Shanling/Onix and others that are selling transports that output the SACD layer via I2S?
There is a forum member that is a sales rep. @paul172 usually remembers this
According to ai, it is a Sanyo HD870.
I popped in a 32GB stick full of music. It recognizes it, read it, and is now playing music from it!![]()
I updated all three PMGs with a 2G USB drive, no problems. Also updated the Mk2 with the same drive.
2G work? Wow, I could not get a 128 MB USB working a few years back so I stuck with using a 32mb. There was an old thread on this but that was for MK 1 a few years back. I may try a 1G USB later. ![]()
Oh, the topic was for FW update before and PSA recommended using a low one, playing files with USB is a different story and a higher storage one will work based on your post.
According to Steve Stone’s review in the latest TAS the Onix features gapless playback, which would be no good for classical music.
PMG SACD arrived here today. On my 4th SACD/CD, and feeling it’s unbelievable the SQ improvement over PST, even without break-in, and I love the PST. Maybe darker background, but difficult to put into words what I’m hearing, as mentioned above.
Very happy camper, except that the limited run of these forced my hand to get it first. May be years till bank account says yes, but good to know the PMG Pre and DAC should available when I’m ready.
Has anyone else tried to do the FW update for the PMG SACD? Mine is at 2.2.1 (I think) and the posted FW on the main site is 2.3.0. I placed the files in the main directory of my USB stick (a 2GB stick that’s worked in the past) and after plugging it into the back and power cycling, nothing. It just booted as normal.
After download into PC, Unzip then open the folder. Copy the files themselves, not the folder to USB drive. Then follow the instruction.
Make sure you don’t copy the folder itself!
Donald, buddy, what do you take me for - a newb?
I’ve been doing this with PSA gear since their first FW upgradable series of equipment.
I may have to go dig up a 2MB stick somewhere!
It worked for me, but I use a 5 years old 32mb stick![]()
Sigh. Time to go digging in my box of discarded USB sticks!
I mentioned above I updated three PMGs with a 2G usb with no trouble, the update took. Someone else posted about having a problem just getting the stick into the FW slot. I also had that problem and had to work a bit to get it seated. You might try again and if no update take the usb out and reinsert. It may not be making good contact.
It’s Juan. I forgot his forum name maybe @aangen can help.

Fortunately my PMG SACD has USB slots front and back that have no such issues. It seems to be that the particular variety of 2GB sticks I was using (generics bought on Amazon - all formatted FAT32 and otherwise posing no problems anywhere else) the transport just doesn’t seem to like. I had to dig up an old Lexar 2GB stick. As soon as I plugged that in - voila!
